Kennedy's has lousy food. But, they have a bathroom and they're located only by footsteps from the beach. The only problem is it's located in Breezy Point, a private cooperative. You have to stop at the Breezy gate and pick up a pass (tell them you're going to Kennedy's) and leave it in your dash. You get there by making a right turn after you get of the Marine Pkwy Bridge. You might also be able to park your car in the lots directly ahead of the bridge exit. I think they may have a public restroom. You should see a couple of food trucks nearby as well.

^ thanks. I might check that out one day.

I happen to like Brighton Beach. There are plenty of bathrooms and where else can you get a snack with a shot of vodka

I like to go right in the middle of the beach (near Ocean Parkway entrance) or at the other end (B.6th st) when I have my son (this part is a little bit of a younger crowd but not wild). -
^ how are you getting there? If driving, by what route and where are you parking?
I'm down with the vodka (although not so much while driving) -

Ocean Parkway to the end (or where that street circles around [Surf Ave?]). There is always parking on the street there on the weekend so I am sure during the week there is more available. There is also a muni-meter lot there.

^ cool. thanks! I have been there before, but I was wandering around with no real sense of where to go.

you can see plum beach from there.
also i dislike Brighton beach its basically same as coney island all connected. -
Went to Riis Park today - it was fabulous, but I kept seeing helicopters going by. It was because a 12-year old girl drowned off of Long Beach. This happens several times a year. I made fun of this sign for the "know how to swim" advice, but seriously, people, know what to do if you get caught in a rip tide.
A PSA from Flexi:
-
^the beach I grew up on was plagued with notoriously strong ripcurrents which killed people almost every year.
JUST FLOAT, PEOPLE!! And, for the love of god, don't swim on un-lifeguarded beaches. Its unbelievable how many people die every year from not knowing basic swimming safety and not paying attention to posted warnings... -
Damn. Another kid died at Riis Park today due to rip currents I was there, but left much earlier than this happened. The waves were BIG today and two lifeguards raced into the water when I was there to snatch up 2 kids - they were fine, I think they were just goofing around, but the lifeguards were on pretty high alert. They were out there in rowboats, kayaks, etc. patrolling the waters
However, i think the lifeguards are only there from 10-6.
DON'T SWIM WITHOUT A LIFEGUARD PRESENT, PEOPLE!
