AAAARGH these fucking birds!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
One of those little - like four inch - brown birds built a nest under the air conditioner in my living room over the winter. The eggs have hatched and the baby birds chirp LOUDLY ALL DAY LONG.
Does anyone know how long until these motherfuckers will learn to fly and get the fuck out of hearing range?

Just be careful... we had a baby pigeon on our windowsill and we ended up with bird mites. Not sure if it's more likely with pigeons than with other kinds of birds, but if the babies have them, you can end up with them in your house.
It happens when the babies grow up and fly away. The mites that live in the nest feed off the babies and if the babies leave, the mites will come into your house looking for food. They're SUPER small and they look like moving bits of dust. We happened to see them because there were little white specks moving around on our wine bottles. (Some look black because they've recently fed and are filled with blood. I know, eeyew!!)
Don't mean to scare you, but you should be on the lookout and take measures against it. This might help: www.birdmites.org -
Embrace it, set up a birdie cam!

FUCKING BIRD MITES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WTF. Can I just borrow a gun and shoot out the nest? Fuck the fucking sparrows. Bird mites sounds like bed bugs. KILL ME NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

someone piss in your cereal didn't they

As if we need another pest to deal with. Roaches, bedbugs--my biggest fear, and now friggin mites we can't even see? Forget fearing shark attacks or rattlesnakes, we're all going to kill ourselves when mites take over our sinus cavities. Awesome!!

That birdmites.org site looks a little commercial to me. It never even identifies the mites by their scientific name. And all those sidebars with terms like "nightmare," "anguish", etc. Gee, do yo suppose there's a screen treatment there - The Birdmites of Brooklyn - they're on your block, in your yard, in your house, aiieeeeee!!!!!

Is there some bird rescue place I can call to have them remove the entire nest?
-
you could always tie starving cats to that tree.
-
I don't know how you can get rid of them before the babies can fly. Maybe you could try 311?
As far as that bird mites web site looking commercial, it might be. I couldn't stomach reading too much of it.
We actually never had to call a professional. Our super knew what they were and he brought over some industrial strength bug killer. We cleaned the nest off and sprayed the crap out of the affected area. We probably all have cancer now, but it's better than mites.
Then we bought a ton of metal bird spikes from Tarzian hardware and glued them to all of our windowsills.
Sorry about the fearmongering...that wasn't my intention. I don't think it's all that common generally speaking, but if you have a nest, you really want to take all precautions! -
....I continue to believe that being a 311 operator must be the hardest job in the city.
People would tell people to call me about birds on their windowsill, and I would have to be polite and listen.
Scarlett, once the little birds fly away, pull out your A/C and take a broom stick to the nest. They'll build a new home somewhere else.
....it'll be like a thunderstorm blew their nest out of a tree, no worse.
Howdy, Stranger!
