Drunks and dogs pissing on my tree - suggestions?

tape a foot-wide strip of foil around the tree and put one of these signs above it:
-
And then you'll find out just how drunk the idiots are...
-
Maybe off subject but the tree doesn't belong to you, just so you know...
No excuse for people pissing on it, or dogs. -
I love Jeffrey's idea. Our neighbor actually brings her dog to our building to pee in our front garden (through the fence). (She's a horrible person in other ways as well, and after some things I've seen I'm scared to keep telling her to stop letting the dog pee there and to pick up it's crap.)
And ftr, I have a male dog and it's just not that hard to keep them from peeing where you don't want them to pee (flowers, bikes, stoops, etc.). The problem is assholes like my neighbor who seem to guide their dogs to people's nicely planted tree pits and gardens. Unfortunately, it's bad for the plants and trees in the levels that happen around here.
We've also joked about just sitting in the window with a supersoaker full of colored water to, um, deter the behavior. Maybe color it yellow. Shout, "I'm just returning this piss you left here" while soaking them. -
^ I dare you :-)
I like Jeffrey's idea as well -

OMG - I would so sit with you to do this.

I'd come too! I'd feel safe knowing Stacey had my back

She is Brooklyn through-and-through (in the best possible way) -
I can see it now - all 3 of us with our Super Soakers!!! OQ whenever you are ready I say we use our constitutional right to bear arms!
Plus Flexi can back us both up with her cane! -

I will bust it out of storage and dust it off.
Plus Flexi can back us both up with her cane!
there will be drinking and "ptew ptew" sounds, for sure -
Oh, and I will be sure to say "say hello to my leeeeeetle friend" at least once
-
Oh gawd. My neighbor never takes the dogs for a walk. Instead, she parades them from my gutter to the gutter across the street. During the summer it smells like the men's room at Yankee Stadium. I frequently hose it down, but she never gets the hint. Those poor dogs look crippled from lack of exercise.
Nice people though. Not approachable, but polite. -
put up a sign that says "please don't let your dog pee here." That should take care of most of the dogs. Can't say anything about irresponsible dog owners, but most responsible owners will abide.
-
My crazy neighbor (who unless threatening old ladies who have fallen on the ground, appears normal) seems to intentionally bring her dog here to pee, despite repeated requests for her not to. She does save some trips for another neighbor's flower bed, as well. Last time I heard him tell her stop doing it, she simply yelled "fuck you, <his>".
She deserves a supersoaker full of real pee. I would assume she's a total loon, but I know she holds a decent job and a really nice girlfriend who is willing to live with her. -
Isn't that a dominance display, showing her total contempt for her neighbors?
Nice! -
Not your tree, not your tree pit, not your sidewalk, not your street.

Yea, true nuff.
But on the other hand,- I am the one who cleans out all the trash people leave in the pit.
I am the one who cleans out the dog crap left behind when people don't clean up after their dogs.
I am the one bought the flowers for the pit.
I am the one who tends to those flowers.
I am the one trying to do my part in making things a little nicer and more appealing for everyone walking down the block.

-
^^^ you got a point there
-
Also, aren't homeowners responsible for the sidewalk in front of their home, ie if it's got cracks, the homeowner replaces it?
And it's not just tree pits, like I've said. -
Where is this tree that has the power to make man and dog piss on it?
-
Monk nobody tried to tell you how to feel. Possum what are u tryin to say, I shouldn't be allowed to walk on YOUR sidewalk, if you have a problem with the fact that the city requires homeowners to maintain the sidewalk write your councilman! Call the cops about public urination, get a video camera, contact the State Liquor Auth about a problem bar, whatever. You live in the big city now, it's chock full of a**holes who don't care about your altruistic gardening efforts.
-
BrookSignal, why on earth are you flying that flag in your avatar when that's what you have to say?
-

Not the point. -
I like the double tree pit on Carlton off Park Place...there is a hosta border with a cement cat ornament. Someone puts a pair of sunglasses on the cat. The glasses are changed after the pair before it is either stolen or updated...?
The homeowner is responsible for the sidewalk even though it is the city's domain. The city plants trees and replaces trees but the homeowner has the choice to clean it up or not.... I have been cleaning my "neighbor's" (both an old friend and the new owner) tree pit for 19 years. Neither owner has ever said thank you and frankly, after a few years of semi-resentment I just did it because I hated seeing the weed/dog poo/left over garbage, etc.
One day the former owner put in a new sidewalk and when I came home the workers had just finished dumping some extra cement in the tree pit!!!!!!!!!! Some folks are just dipshits and then feigned ignorance when I asked them what they were doing, sigh. It is still mostly hardened cement and cobble stones.
Oh, and it is suggested that when shoveling snow, to pile it up into the tree pits so the trees get the water. Trees are planted in front of homes BUT I have RARELY seen anyone water them or even care for them after the planting.
Most folks would rather see green things than not. Most folks would like to see things relatively neat and/or clean, however, most folks who move into our neighborhood are oblivious to what is around them for about 5 years (if they make it here). A larger than average amount of our local citizenry are rebels and love to take a stand against anything that is considered "civilized" if it means a suburban or green or traditional stance. This is the big city. I for one, have become quite conservative in my years here and LOVE to have opinions (like saying I was voting for McCain after Hilary was bumped). So other folks will let their dogs shit and dump bottles full of pee from their car or leave a blob of beans and rice on the sidewalk, leave bumpers, tires, human refuse, condoms, tear bags of garbage open, etc., because they think they are invisible. :shaking2: Someone else will pick up the slack, especially in a throw-away society.
Good night dear Brooklynians! -
^ you had me up until the McCain part

-
That's the point! dear Flexichick. Also, I was sooo frustrated because I couldn't keep up with the Jones' politically...I became my father's daughter, so to speak.
Still wish, oh well, let's end it at that. -
BrookSignal wrote: contact the State Liquor Auth about a problem bar,
really? that's a real suggestion?
I don't think in all my years I've heard such passionate defense of garbage dumping and public urination. here's to you. :salut:
:pukel: whoops. hope that didn't get on your flag. eh, somebody else will clean it up. -
feeling emoticon happy tonight. my only other comment is: :wtf:
-
Hang this sign on the tree......

It is frustrating to nurse along a tree and companion flowers and have no one say thank you. So THANK YOU to all who care for our cityscape!! I love walking along & seeing those lush tree pits.
As for the problematic excrement, in terms of damage cat urine is far worse, and our dear borough does have a few feral cats. I find plant thieves are worse pests since they don't usually know enough to dig the whole root ball up carefully and the stolen plant probably dies. On the bright side, there are no deer to eat EVERYTHING we've planted.
Howdy, Stranger!
