Why all the cops at the Bergen Street subway station? — Brooklynian

Why all the cops at the Bergen Street subway station?

Last 2 mornings around 7 AM, 6 cops on the platform. Not doing bag checks, (no tables or signs and they were inside the turnstiles). Stood near the turnstile until the train approached then 2 walked towards the back of the train, 2 towards the front and 2 stayed in the middle. As far as I could tell none got on the train (I was near the back and could see they were still on the platform as the train pulled out.)

This was on the Manhattan bound platform.

  • Probably because of the rapist. I don't know if they got him yet.
  • Rapist? What?
  • I have no clue either
  • There was an attempted rape in Carrol Garden's a week ago, but that's a far jump from PH
  • i hear they are on a ticket blitz. could be related to that.
  • Sounds like counter terrorism duties to me
  • I had 3 cops come into a subway car I was in recently (in Manhattan) and, after they spent a minute looking up and down the car, all take out little pads and start taking notes (or doodling?) ..... it was strange, but appeared to be some kind of observation exercise they had to do. That was my guess, anyway. I'd imagine they get sent out by their higher-ups to do all sorts of things, like go in large numbers to the trains also to send a visibility message.

Yeah, the Bergen St station is kind of a soft target.
  • maybe there's a threat against Atlantic Ave station...bergen would last stop before that if somebody was going to leave something on the train.
  • Maybe it's just a drill. There's a police precinct right near Bergen, and that would seem the obvious location to conduct a drill for that precinct.
