Does anyone have internet from direct tv.. If so can you tell me how it is and if you recommend it and also how much it costs. Any input would be great. Thanks.

  • I don't have service from them but looked into it. It is extremely expensive and slow. It is only made for people who live in the country and their only choice is DSL, if any. No one in the city will sign up for it. Too expensive and slow compared to cable.
  • We had something like it from DishTV in upstate New Hampshire a few years ago - it was our only option, being a handful of miles from the nearest town - and as my2cats says, it was expensive and slooow. Nothing like the speed you'd get from a cable or even decent DSL connection. Plus, it was unreliable in weather.

I know that I'd love an alternative to TWC, but satellite ain't it, if that's what you're thinking.
  • Yeah I hate twc so much....what about those laptop cards from telephone providers are they any good??
  • Oh man, don't get the satellite internet. My parents had it -- it was expensive, slow, and had a daily usage cap, after which they'd slow you down *even more*. It was their only option besides dial-up, or they wouldn't have gotten it in the first place. It really is only for people who have no other choice.

They just got a Sprint hot spot and the latency is much less, and it's a little less expensive. It's still not actually fast, though.
  • If your hatred is just for TWC, then there's always verizon DSL. If you haven't already subscribed to DirecTV but are planning on it, you can do it through VZ and save a few $ for getting both services through them.
  • I have tethering setup on my 3G blackberry with T-Mobile...On the down side, its T-Mobile (With the T-Mobile coverage in NYC)...On the up side, they don't charge extra for tethering, and they don't meter it (ie its unlimited). I get around a megabit per second down and 256kbit/sec up...Its good enough for most uses, though I wouldn't suggest streaming HD video over it...I have a cable modem, but it is nice to have it as a backup for when I work from home...The problem with the other mobile internet cards is that usage is metered and after a few gigs per month, then they start charging you extra...
  • My provider is http://www.aceinnovative.com/

DSL on Verizon's backbone. They offer phone service as well.
When you have a problem, you call them. They deal with Verizon.
I have had 3 minor outages in 10 years.

Tell them customer 82 referred you.
