Writing groups in the neighborhood? — Brooklynian

Writing groups in the neighborhood?

l keys
edited November -1 in Prospect Heights
I've noticed that there are many writing groups and workshops in Manhattan, but was wondering if anyone knew of any in Prospect Heights or Park Slope? I"m dying to meet up with people and discuss various forms or writing. I'm a poet and feel it truly helps to get criticism and inspiration to continue. Any ideas?

  • Did you try looking on Meetup.com?
  • I'd be interested in a Prospect Heights writing group....perhaps we should start one, if there isn't one already.
  • Subject: wow.

    writing group?

    who pays your bills, guys?

    im jealous.
  • Some of us write for a living - or do other things to pay the bills - but are working on other writing projects which would benefit from feedback........so no need for the snark, elgoats!
  • hi, I'm new here on the brookylian board but I would be interested in a writing group as well! I'm in journalism now but need a push to write more creative stuff in my free time...
  • a little snark is healthy :)

    write away!
  • I am a member of meetup.com, but couldn't seem to find just a simple group. Elgoats, writing doesn't have to bring in money. I do it as a great therapy but wouldn't making a living as a writer. Even if I was a professional writer, that was rude to judge those out there. Either way, I would love to start a writing group. Maybe meet 1x a week? I'm just not sure as to where a good meeting spot would be. I'm thinking a coffee joint, but most are tiny around the area. Let me know!
  • There's also Soda or in the back at Le Gamin, if there's just a few of us. Le Gamin might be good because you can order a coffee or something to eat.....L Keys are you thinking in the evening or during the day? I'm interested, and day time would probably be easier for me, but I could try to work it in the evening as well.
  • Very true! I prefer afternoons as well, maybe 1x a week from 4-5pm? Le Gamin sounds like a great idea. Being that only a few people seem interested, maybe we should wait until a few more inquire-then we can set up a first meeting. How does that sound?
  • Hello, just wanted to say hello and let you know I'd be interested in joining the writing group as well! Either evening or daytime would work for me...hope we can get something started soon!
  • Hey fellow writers! I'd like to start this writing group regardless of meet up hehe. Only issue is, I will be out of state for the next 2 weeks but definitely want to start it up after. Is everyone free during the week of July 26th-30th?
  • Writing groups are welcome to meet at LaunchPad. We host a couple of writing groups already, additional groups are always an option. There is no charge for use of the space. Feel free to get in touch to plan further.

  • Hey haven't been on board a bit since moving to the hood but glad to see this thread. Launchpad, that's a great offer. We're still unpacking, anybody want to spearhead this? How about a writers block group lol.
  • Long time no speak!! So I'm still motivated to create our own little, informal writing group. Please let me know what days/times are best. As well, would it be more efficient to have weekly or monthly sessions? The one issue is that I will be away from Sunday, August 8th-Sunday, August 22nd so I will not be available that week. Lemme know--stay cool everyone 8)
