  • Yeah Scarlett!!! Congratulations. Did you tell all the losers to "Kiss your Grits"!
    xoxox
  • Rave: my jug of (plantation mint) sun tea got a full 6 hours of hot sun in before the clouds finally came

    Rave: Hasn't happened yet
  • Thanks guys! Whatchu, as the brooklynian who has tasted the most of my cooking, most appreciated!!! Dinner party chez moi soon?

Stacey, my bff had this idea that I need to brand myself more at these cookouts so she made me this amazing sign with my pic and name that said "kiss my roasted red pepper grits!" Teeee!

I opened and washed the Analon. Pot tonight. It's the nicest pot I have ever owned. Wheeeeeee! Next cookoff is either bacon or ice cream. Details to follow.

    Why choose.

Nice! I have 2 tea jars on rotation - one in the fridge and one backed up and ready to go in case I run out. I haven't tried the Plantation Mint yet, mainly because I have 4 types of mint growing in my yard so I add it fresh (orange mint, apple mint, spearmint and ....um....some other mint)
  • Love sun tea, but lately we've been doing the over night cold-brew type.

Rant: Another day of errands postponed due to heat. I have to get to the post office!.. baahhh, too hot....
  • Rave: what comes to mind any time anyone mentions "cat boarding"

    image

Rant: cold, harsh reality that is far more boring
  • ^ man - I was saying earlier today that I wish I had a boogie board at Riis Park today because the waves were HUGE and the water was not that cold. I may have broken my other foot in the process, but it would have been fun at least!

    AC going, woot!!
  • RAVE: ^ MOAR CAT BOARDING
  • Can we talk about sun tea? I usually boil water, pour it over some bags in a pitcher and refridg over night. Is sun tea that different? My parents use to make kick ass sun tea on the porch, but I don't have a porch and not sure it would be the same through the windows - although they are southern facing. Thoughts?
On another note, I made peppermint ice tea and it was NOT good.
  • Dunno.

Boiling it is definitely safer, kills the bacteria.

The sun part is just kinda old fashioned fun.

And the Plantation Mint (Bigelow?) I use is a combo of Spearmint and Peppermint.

Love it. Not sure, but I think you are better off with Spearmint or a combo with Peppermint rather than Peppermint by itself for iced tea...might be too bitter or something.

Well, that's all I got on the subject of sun tea.

Rave: ice cream for breakfast (coffee health crunch -not the above!), burgers for dinner. All american. Woot
  • ^ Two scoops. One cup.
  • Rave: 8000 BTUs OF PURE COOLING POWER!!!
rave: i will finally sleep in my bed tonight instead of on the couch
  • Rave: haircut by Carmen!
  • OpossumQueen wrote: Rave: haircut by Carmen!
rave also: I did not get hacked into little pieces by the person who bought my AC (from craigslist) I thought you would like to know, OP (he was a little weird, though...)
  • Rave: I ran in to a client on the (bicycling) commute home and, upon learning that I'm getting in to the whole road biking thing, he gave me a rather nice present - a PowerTap wheel ($1k-ish retail, mind you). My bike is now wired with sensors and processors to tell me all about power output, miles, speed, calories burned, heart rate, etc, etc, etc - all very valuable tools for monitoring health and performance gains.

    Rant: No excuses, now.
  • This song is stuck in my head, now it's your turn

  • Rant: tired, worked all mornin', tomorrow I'm blasting the AC and writing & watching movies all day to relax.

    Rave: image
  • Rave: Nathan. And occasionally some people in the line that wraps behind him.

  • Rant: Milk that goes bad a full week before its expiration date.

Maybe this is just a factor of delivery trucks unloading milk crates that sit out in this heat wave we've been experiencing, but it's happened from several places now and I don't think it's my refrigerator (set for coolest).

I just threw out a half gallon and two unopened, sealed full gallons (from different stores) bought just a few days ago, well in advance of their sell-by and expiration dates.

For something more expensive than gas per gallon, this really sucks. Totally inconvenient when you get to the fridge in need of it and it's gone thick and smelly. :pukel: :puker:

  • Rave: New Orleans. Words can not describe how much I love you.

Also special shout-out rave to Carmen's awesome sistard.
  • awwww. the sistard!
  • The clean, air conditioned bathroom trailer at Picnic Point on Gov's Island - it's magnificent! If you're on the island, you should go, even if you don't have to go.
  • haha, nice to know ^^

Rant about 95 degree in my apt, all fans are on.

Rave: homemade grilled cheeseburgers for lunch and yes, the cat did get a bite.

  • Rant - got a flat on my bike ride in to work.

Rave - had the tools and know-how to git r dun. Was up and running after sitting in the shade for 10 minutes, waiting for the glue to dry.

You ride tubular wheels to work???? What kind of bike is it?

Rant- bike tire got a flat this morning as I was pumping it up to commute in for the first time in weeks.

Rave- still had an extra day on my Metrocard, which was the reason I wanted to ride in
  • Haha - no, no tubies, I meant the rubber cementy stuff from the patch kit. Tires are Conti Attack/Force. Caught a great sale on them at probikekit.com - about $65 for the set - at that price, I had to get a spare set, too.

The bike is a Jamis Xenith Comp.
