Hahaha. I knew you would get it. I met my "favorite ex-boyfriend" there in 1985 and we are still friends. I have so many pictures from there - we used to go every weekend because my friends worked at the bar.
...........and now back to the Petco thread :-) -
Flexi
You and Stacey are having a "shared moment" on this thread.
How adorable.
Love it.
Just have no interest in Petco in PS..lil! -
Ha, veets, I too remember when that Petco was The Underground, but I used to hang at Danceteria with the cool people. 8)

pfft. I went to Danceteria too. I even went to Slimelight before it turned into a freakin' SHOPPING MALL
(and the original Studio 54 (when I was about 14 and the drinking age was 18), and Xenon, The Tunnel and way too many other places - some of which I can't remember
) -
Mudd Club, Peppermint Lounge, Club 57, Tier 3, Hurrah, the Ritz, CBs. I have a few years on you Flex, so you were what, 15 at the time? kidding....
BACK TO PETCO! -

Yes, actually I was 15! The drinking age was 18 and the licenses were paper without your picture (I know you remember).. I went to boarding school for a year and my friend's dad owned Peppermint Lounge - we went everywhere! A 15 year old girl with makeup and a pushup bra could go anywhere! (except for Tier 3 and Hurrah - you lost me there)
BACK TO PETCO!
Back to Petco :-) -
No NO Flexie... tell us more about your youth!
LOl! -

Ok and that is a date in our future!
For now, dear moderators... we kindly return the thread to original topic.
Now what was that topic? -

Hurrah was 72nd and Columbus (I lived above it for a while) and Tier 3 was Vesey and Walker. Big ska venue.
Petco, anyone? -
OK, back on topic (before Jeffery splits this thread to old farts reminiscing about obsolete clubs) I've been trying to get my guys onto Weruva (google it - this is an amazing local company with seriously good pet food) - but it's been slow going so far. Mixing it with their normal food but they only kind of take to it. Also, I love Loving Pet Food on Smith. Great pet store if you're in the area.

Heh, actually I didn't want to chime in and further hijack with discussion of the new old Palladium (torn down, now NYU dorms) with the Michael Todd Room upstairs etc. or, in the early 90s, Wunderbar next to Slimelight, Peggy Sue's upstairs on University and 13th, System at 13th off 4th or mention of any late night attempts to save robots.
And yes, there was a whole stretch of time when The Tunnel just rocked. Nothing like it since.
But back to furry pets. -

I just passed the old limelight last week. Couldn't believe it was a market. Didn't have time to stop in though. -

I'm not joking that I walked in the front door, and couldn't even get past the first 2 stores (Le Sport Sac and some fancy lingerie store) and decided I didn't want to see the rest. I wanted to remember Slimelight just the way it used to be. Although I do think a priest should have to bless that mess of a mall! -

Ah - the Palladium!I saw both the Ramones and Elvis Costello and Squeeze there! And oh, man, I haven't thought of save the robots in years.

Er, yeah, pets.ok. go. -

Too funny. I thought it was a grocery/food place as I saw baskets of fruit on shelves in the back, outside. -

Not to get off topic again, but I had a dream about Save The Robots last night. Nicely played, sir!
(an awesome after hours club on Avenue B in the mid 80s for those of you interested) -
I just want to re-register as an OLD FART by posting on this thread.
-
haha. 1800 posts and it's my first split thread. Team Voodoo!!!

Flexi rules as the SEPARATOR and that is a very vicious and delicious category to be in.... for those of you who have missed this most auspicious split moment thread.
p.s. a moment of honesty... I don't care if Petco moves in or not!
p.p.s. does my previous p.s. mean I have hijacked THIS thread? -
p.p.s.s. ... If this is the OLD fart thread can I say whatever I want and have total immunity? If that is true I plead SENILITY and advance whatever wacko Ideas I may have and they are........................................................................................................

I used to party at Petco itself, in the cat food aisles. And that's just plain sad!
-
OK - I remember the Underground - but since this is a shared senior moment: there was another club just a block or two away - - it had the carousel in it. What the hell was the name of that? Please don't say Peppermint Lounge -
I seem to remember the Peppermint Lounge as being in the midtown area - where people would drop beer bottles off the balcony onto the dance floor below.
There was another club on Varick right off Houston that was actually a cafeteria during the day but a dance club at night. Remember dancing WITH Billy Idol there. -
Okay, but if y'all are going to go there, you have to include the Garage, which was the best after hours club EVER! (until Verizon reclaimed it so they could use the space as a garage). I remember all the transvestites in the unisex bathrooms shaking their heads at us poor 17 and 18 yr old waifs that used to show up to dance in our ripped t-shirts and bike shorts.
Dancing until 6am then breakfast at the diner on 6th Avenue across from the Dime Savings Bank. Those were the days... -
^ Re: Varick off Houston...
Perhaps where S.O.B.'s is now? SE Corner of Varick and Vandam? Had some awesome Midnight endless samba drum party times there, back in the 90s.
Or wait, there was another club on Varick there, on the west side of the street...hm...not remembering.
And further down toward Canal St at the corner of Spring there was NV in the '90s. And right across from that there was Jet with all the broken glass shards on the walls, related to Jet in the Hamptons and in Miami. And Don Hills is still just west of there on Spring at Renwick. Amazing how that area has grown up, thanks to DeNiro etc.
And going back to the '80s, there was also the classic Paradise Garage on King St.
Howdy, Stranger!
