  • If the whole nabe from Washingon to Ralph is tagged "Crown Heights" how would an outsider have any clue that some special is going on around Brower Park?
the area has been landmarked! that's how people know it's special!
  • Capt. Planet wrote: The question I'd like to raise, given that the architecture is indeed significant around Brower Park, is: does that reality deserve any special recognition, like a n'hood name reflective of this realty?

As we all should know, the first reaction of many outsiders when they hear that you're considering moving to Crown Heights is "Is that where the riot was?"
We know that happened 20 years ago, but the rest of the world doesn't seem to get it.
As I said before "Crown Heights" has too much baggage. A new name begets new possibilties. Why keep getting tarred with the same old brush?
The East Village was a crack den back in the day, and still has some hairy spots... ultimately a neighborhood is what its population makes of it

Compartmentalizing CH by its pockets of marketability serves nobody's interest but real estate brokers... it's a slap in the mouth to people who have lived in the area "from day one" and breeds a bit of resentment & rifts between the newcomers and the people who were already there....

Plus you act as though said compartmentalization will aid in keeping crime down. People still get mugged by Flatbush no matter what Craigslist calls the neighborhood.

Let Crown Heights be Crown Heights. Brooklyn is a very block to block neighborhood so it's up to people moving in to determine the best place to live on their own.
  • At the risk of igniting another conflagration, I am puzzled about the following
    Cpt. Planet:
Sure crime happens everywhere. I remember a few years a cobbler on 4th Ave and 10th Street was murdered for the change in his cash register by some thugs from Windsor Terrace. Same thing with the proprietor of a dry cleaner in Windsor Terrace.

When did these two crimes take place? I lived in WT for 20+ years and can remember the dry cleaner who sold coke - but he didnt get murdered, at least not while he ran the cleaners. I remember the gang fights on PPW, even people stealing hubcaps, and before the Pilgrim laundry site became housing. How could I have missed two murders?

Wow, I guess you'd better come up with a new name for that part of Windsor Terrace, since the "character" is so different. Or just start calling the rest of Windsor Terrace Park Slope.
  • .

before being affiliated with park slope the resident of windsor terrace would secede from brooklyn
  • Maybe Franklin Park could use styrofoam cups.

I'm sure Windsor Terrace's excellent reputation is largely built on the practices and customers of Farrels
  • Why is it that almost every topic goes astray on here? This appears to be a thread that needs to be split, since no one seems to want to discuss the original topic.

    wn31

who's franlklin park the president of south korea.?

windsors reputation is based on being neighbor friendly, family oriented and has very low crime rate, their resident don't waste their time complaining about double strollers or the closing of a dildo shop as our elitist [ lol ] neighbors in the slope do.

not being a patron of farrels i do give them credit for their history of running benefits to raise funds and assist families in their time of need, along with supporting local schools.

it seems you may have at one time ventured into their bar and had been intimidated and maybe even repulsed by the sight of their dreaded blue collar clientele , cops and firemen, who drink out of styrofoam containers.

who i have the greatest respect for as they put their lives on the line every day while others sit at computers and make smug remarks

if the only thing that comes to your mind when you hear windsor terrace mentioned is farrels shows you know nothing about the terrace

I think you need to read the OP again (not just the link). Capt Planet has a clear agenda here that has nothing to do with discussing the details of this particular incident.
  • Well I wanna talk CRACK WARS, this border talk is quite boring!!! Maybe he should change the title, its misleading!

It's true, the OP went off topic in his own post.

I was kind of disappointed that the titled of the thread only focused on crack, when the Daily News article clearly states our hero was dealing both crack and heroin.

Why does the OP and Daily news dis' heroin?

They referred to rock cocaine as "crack". Couldn't they be more streetwise and refer to heroin by one of the various street names it goes by?

Who the hell goes around saying "Hey, you got any heroin?"

    Hamilton-
I like Winstor Terrace, and mention Farrell's because to me it represents the neighborhood's roots. As you point out, the 'hood historically contained lots of working class folks, but is in danger of being overtaken by the Slope. I go to Farrell's whenever I can. My Irish background allows me to blend to a degree. The beer is tasty and cheap. The cups are excellent.
  • Or start a thread, Crack Wars causing neighborhoods to change there names due to poor real estate market
  • Let's just bring it back on topic.

    KWAC-
What is the going rate these days for an 8 ball or bag?

Which groups are presently battling it out?

Which group runs the Albany Projects trade?
  • .

H TECH was considered the hennesy's of heroin by a few of the south slope addicts i knew .

two of them died in the last year and one has been hospitalize for liver failure .

i've been told he may get out for a day and will stop by the neighborhood, i hope to catch him as i intend to get a video interview from him, something he wanted to do before his liver gave out.

back to the subject, this addict told me whenever the cops needed a month end arrest they would park close to the dealers building and arrest him and his friends for possession of heroin and ignore the dealer,

his explanation was the cops gave the dealer a ride as it gave them a steady flow of junkies to arrest and was probably ratting someone out..

I could never understand why it takes close to a year to arrest and shut down dealers when it quite obvious what's going on.
  • There are certainly lots of known drug houses in Crown Heights, and the neighborhood groups ask the police the same questions.

....but I don't want to make this about the police.

Let's get back to H TECH.

    Hamilton-
Please ask him the going rate. ...is supply and quality consistent?
Does the addict have back-up dealers in place for interruptions in supply? ...would he consider methadone?

assuming he injects, does he resort to using needles over again, or has he found a sympathetic pharmacist or needle exchange program?

    KWAC, et al-
I need to refresh my vocabulary and knowledge on this subject. I once ran a Harm Reduction group, but that was way back in the early 90s. I'm completely behind the times. Help me out please....
  • I posted H TECH in error it should be HI TECH,

when ever he could scrape enough he would purchase a 10.00 bag or if he hit one of the scratch off tickets which all junkies buy he would buy a bundle at 100.00 a pop. [ 10 bags ]

back up dealers can be found anywhere
if the neighborhood supply dried up he'd go to sunset park or bay ridge

when there was nothing available he would sign up for a methadone program and when the heroin market opened, he like many junkies would do spit backs, which is not swallowing the methadone, but spitting it in a paper cup and selling it to an other junkie waiting outside the center, then using the money to go back on heroin.

him and his group would use the same needle if there was nothing available at the time

he did inject , opposed to the current practice of snorting it, yes there is a local pharmacist that was authorize to issue needles and they would go in and demand their needles scaring the crap out of people waiting for their prescriptions.

  • cool.

My guys used to use sandwich bags for the spit backs, that way the staff couldn't catch them as easily, and they could keep the bags in their jacket before and after.

See if he can get me names of some of the lower grade stuff. ...I want to be able to interact with the low end addicts as well as the high end ones.
