First Saturday/Brooklyn Museum — Brooklynian

First Saturday/Brooklyn Museum

I've never been to this, but I'd like to go...perhaps this coming Saturday.

What exactly goes on? What's the crowd like? How does one dress for this?

Anything else to note?

  • The crowd is pretty mixed, but tends towards families earlier in the evening, younger adults later in the evening - very club-like the few times I've gone.

Nothing special as far as dress is concerned.

Don't expect to be able to peacefully contemplate a work of art - music throbs through much of the museum.
  • So, it's like a "club" for that night? Is the crowd sparse? Social?
  • Yeah, LOTS of bodies packed in to the dance area. Social? Well, I don't know how much talkin' is going on... heh.

Not to say that that's all there is too it - there is a lot of stuff going on, it's just that the dance completely dominates the later stages of the evening.
  • haven't found it all that social. crowd is pretty young (after families, it's 20-somethings). and i didn't love the music. but the roast beef sandwiches were pretty fab.
  • I think it is a blast!

Just go with an open mind and have fun! I go whenever I am in town...
  • have you been to PS1? It's the Brooklyn vesion without manhattan hipsters dressed in Prada and rolling around in the dirt. Much more relaxed on the attire. If the music is indoors? The acoustics suck. If it is outdoors it's much better. The best events are the latin music ones.
