Advice on Bed-stuy location. — Brooklynian

Advice on Bed-stuy location.

Hey everyone, I'm considering a studio on Pacific at Franklin. I just started working at a little shop near the Nostrand C stop and am falling for the neighborhood, but I know things change from block to block. I'm a single girl, alert and strong but rather ballerina-like. Any advice would be much appreciated. Thank you.

  • The first thing you'll learn is that many people on this board (not me, though), will crucify you for suggesting that this is in Bed-Stuy. They have rigid ideas of neighborhood boundaries and become annoyed and pedantic when anyone disagrees with them.

After giving you a lecture followed by the inevitable moving of your post to the "proper board", they will likely tell you that the area is nice, with the only possible problem being the large men's shelter one block east.

    Regardless, welcome to the area!
  • While I can't speak on this area, consider making this post on the Prospect Heights board as well, as that might technically be the more accurate neighborhood.
  • thanks very much for the information. its how we learn.
  • Welcome to Crown Heights. Don't get shot, stabbed, mugged, or approached by drug dealers. :?
  • I'm rarely down in that area of Crown Heights, and its pretty desolate.

...some auto repair places, some Bus companies, and the like.

I do like the old Heinz factory though.

I think you will be fine.

....the large men's shelter, and those who hang out on the nearby corner and sell drugs to them, seems to be a mostly daytime activity. Hopefully it will end each day by the time you come home from work.

    The area continues to improve.
  • thank you, everyone, truly. just signed my checks. suppose i'm now a crown heights girl and, excitedly so!
  • i realize there may be some sketchy activity but, i feel like some trust, caution and good energy will take me a long way.
