Parking garage reviews

Getting away from the subject of steam room sex and cultish food co-ops for a moment...

I'm inheriting a car from a family member and am planning on garaging it in North Slope. Any feedback on local garages? We're looking at the garages on Union and 7th Ave and on Flatbush and Plaza St.

The going rate seems to be about $285/month. If anyone has any suggestions for better or cheaper garages within walking distance of North Slope, I'm all ears.

Thanks in advance!

  • maybe you can rent it out as a place to have sex or to the co-op for deliveries

(that wasn't very helpful, but I couldn't resist)

I'm surprised it's only $285 at those places. Is that for full 7 x 24? Down South the two garages on 11th and 12th (between 7th and 8th) charge $310 a month.
  • It's for a regular car. I think there's an added charge for SUVs that brings it to $305 or $310.

Are you including the tax? That brings a $285 rate up around $310. I don't drive a SUV and I seem to recall parking in one of the garages in that part of the world for a couple of hours once and commenting on the fact that the price was the same as I pay - then again it might have been the place on Union between 8th and GAP which is run by the same near-monopoly that runs the ones by me.

Yea, I wasn't including the tax. Still, sounds better than finding a street space and having to move my car every week.

If you can afford it and it's convenient - do it. It's not just the moving it for alternate side every week, it's the coming home at night and driving round and round (and round) looking for a spot. And you don't have to deal with some a-hole keying your paintwork. And birds crapping all over it when you park under a tree. And digging it out in the winter.
  • when i used to live in seattle, where they have no street cleaning, i used to leave my car for months at a time and then forget where it was. i'd be wandering the neighborhood clicking my panic button trying to trigger the alarm... ahh, the good ol days.

Before I got a garage space I used to do that - I'd stick a post-it on the fridge to remind me where I'd left it.
  • Apparently there's an open lot on Carroll between 4th and 5th that charges $125 a month. locked, but open as in not a covered spot. My neighbor mentioned it to me recently. I know there's also another one for that price in PH somewhere near Lincoln Pl and Underhill. My friend parks her ride there.
  • I park in a weird little lot with about 50 cars on Garflield between 6th and 7th (almost at the corner of 7th Avenue). It is self park, but they have to move cars to take it out. It is open 6 days a week and if you need it on Sunday, they move it near the front and they give you a key to the door.

    How much do you pay?

Sorry to be a pest, but our car is winging it's way to NYC next week and will need a home. Is there a contact number for the lot? Any idea if there are any spaces available? Thanks!
