Answered above, but re-posting here. Encourage you to use names when in contact w/ authorities per why_not's "steps"

801 Franklin Ave (Northeast corner of Franklin and Lincoln (Shorey's Deli))
    Owner: Glenisha Brown
    180 Midwood Street
    Brooklyn, NY 11225

    Former Owner (Deceased?):
    Linton D. Brown
    801 Franklin Ave
    Brooklyn, NY 11216

    Lessor: A.O.A. Management, LLC
    6704 Wooster Ave
    Los Angeles, CA 90056

(Note: Oh, California, hmmmm, interstate commerce. I remember something about that from middle school social studies, who was it that handles that?)

Here is a PDF of the current 801 Franklin/Shorey's Lease: http://pdfcast.org/download/801-franklin-ave-lease.pdf

From the lease it sounds like the owner wants no part and is trying to get rid of the building. The Californians have a 650K purchase option that they can exercise anytime after 3/31/2012. It resets to a 750k strike price on 3/31/2017(see section 31).

    From Califonia Secretary of State:
    Entity Name: AOA MANAGEMENT, LLC
    Entity Number: 200718410122
    Date Filed: 07/03/2007
    Status: ACTIVE

Agent for Service of Process: ADAEZENNAYA AGU
    Agent Address: 6704 WOOSTER AVE

6704 Wooster is owned by Ukeje H Agu and Bridget N Agu

    and its 2007 IRS Form 990: http://www.guidestar.org/FinDocuments/2007/20.....-200242830-03c6f37e-Z.pdf

By tax-exempt we are not merely talking about evading NYC cigarette taxes, *cough* different --*ehem*-- jurisdiction. Excuse me.

Be sure to read the last page of the 990 which purports to be a brief description of their activities, but reads like a contrived excuse for all of the zeros.

  • oh no, I broke the brooklynian! help pls mods?

Perhaps mandatory video cameras on every store front - which the police would regularly review for any evidence of criminal activity - would help.
    THIS
But such a law would be offensive to a lot of people who value civil liberties.
these people should analyze the situation...then shut the fuck up.
Right, because being scared is all the reason we need to start instituting McCarthian and Orwellian measures. We need more Patriot Acts, right? I mean, it's understandable, when our civil liberties were installed they didn't have anything so threatening to deal with as some shootings on Franklin. I'm sure they would have thought twice if they could have foreseen this.

I agree something needs to be done, but this "make me safe no matter the cost" attitude makes you a real fucking coward and undeserving of your citizenship. Personally, I'd take a bullet before handing over public surveillance rights to the city. Maybe you should read some history and realize that there are more important reasons than your immediate personal safety why the government cannot mandate security cameras. There are people all over this world living in MUCH worse conditions -- where people get shot in the street many times a day -- who would KILL to have the civil liberties and restricted government you are telling me to "shut the fuck up" about so you can feel a little bit safer on Franklin Ave. Absolutely shameful.

 this is an epic page break
  • Police tower up NW corner Franklin and Lincoln.
  • I hope no one tags it. I hope it does more than provide shade.
  • What is a police tower? I've seen them (with NYPD all over them), so I know what you're talking about --- but what does it DO???
  • krowonhill wrote: but what does it DO???

Morals reformed - health preserved - industry invigorated instruction diffused - public burthens lightened - Economy seated, as it were, upon a rock - the gordian knot of the Poor-Laws are not cut, but untied - all by a simple idea in Architecture!

    Here's the Virginia-based manufacturer's answer:

    http://www.icxt.com/products/icx-surveillance/integrated-platforms/skywatch/SkyWatch-video/

    Hilarious!
  • the better question may be what does the NYPD do with it?

The Skywatch units are supposed to be a visual deterrent to illegal activity.

Law breakers are supposed to wonder if there is anyone in the elevated booth, or whether they are being watched remotely (or at least recorded) by the cameras that point in all directions.

Now enter "how the equipment is used" into the equation:

Criminals quickly figure out whether they are staffed, because the cop has to go to change shifts and go to the bathroom.

Likewise, after a while, criminals wonder anyone is bothering to view the video feeds. ...they get bored, drunk, etc. and slowly test for cops reactions:

"If we loiter here for an hour, do they send a cop to disperse us?"

"If we act like we "hide a package" in the trash, does a cop come by an look in the trash?"

Sometimes a complete joke is made of the things by vandalizing them.
Hopefully the new commander will ensure that this doesn't happen, and use them to their full potential.

...some people believe they have the potential to move crime to another corner.
  • They work
  • I am not sure how it works either. Seems like a deterrent while it is there, but afterwards?????? Wasn't there a tower on that corner last spring?
  • There was a tower on that corner (although it was on the opposite, or northeast, side), through 2005. Then it came back for a while last year.

Were there any shootings when the thing was there? I actually don't think so, at least not right there at the corner. Was there still dealing? And people hanging out all hours? Most definitely.
  • It's all a matter of how the NYPD uses the equipment. ....it looks like we are going to have the opportunity to wait and see.
