Help!! Nostrand ave and Pulaski st
Hi.
Me and my wife saw an apartment for rent at Pulaski&Nostrand today. Very nice 2 br. and a good price.
We are from chile and studying at Parsons, so we're new to brooklyn, in fact, it's our first time in NY and arrived just 2 weeks ago....
Does anyone have something to say about this area? We loved the apartment but we're unsure if it's safe... Please help!! we have to close de deal with the owner asap.
Any comment will be greatly appreciated . Thanks!

As a resident of Nostrand & Madison St., I would not recommend that area to you. It is not safe, and it is lacking in amenities. The G train is also horrible. As a new resident to Broooklyn, I would recommend you look elsewhere so you can get a more pleasant experience for your first time here.
I'm sure people will chime in with a difference of opinion, but that is just my 2 cents! -
Subject: pulaski nostrand apt
I agree with heynow06.........and im pretty sure that you have some time to get back to the owner about this one....
not sure what he told you but apts on pulaski and nostrand are not exactly flying off the shelf.
Whats the price there? maybe you can find a similar apt in your price range in a bit of a nicer area...and yea...the G is pretty bad there. -
As someone who's lived on the G train for years I must disagree.
When there is construction, it's awful (as is true of any line). But a quick check of the MTA site will tell you what's up. If there's no construction it runs as well as any other local train, if not better. (I argue the C train is worse.)
During rush hour the G is about as normal as you can get.
The only consistent downside to the G is that you'll (obviously) have to transfer to get into Manhattan. -
I, too, once lived in the area and you couldn't pay me to move back. I am quite confident that if you explore other parts of Brooklyn you will find something for a comparable price in a much nicer area.
There are nice parts of Bed Stuy. For instance, Stuyvesant Heights is nice as are some of the areas along the Clinton Hill border (look off of Classon, Franklin, and Bedford between Lafayette and Fulton) but Nostrand is just plain awful. And dirty. And sketch galore. -
Thank you guys for all this help!!. It's what we felt walking around the area... It's hard to be aware of details being new in a place.
We´ll keep looking in other parts of Bklyn.

Good luck! There are beautiful parts of Bed Stuy for sure!

If you're in a rush to find housing, I suggest you take a short sublet (1-3 months) in an area you think you like. Then you can see if you actually like the area while scouting it and other places. Signing a full year lease in a new town (or country) is a big commitment. I like to give myself a little time to figure out where I feel most comfortable and can afford.
Btw, I did this and had a great experience. I found a place on craigslist that was adequate, where I thought I wanted to live, and near a train I needed. It was fine, but far from nice which made the places I looked at all the more appealing.
Good luck!
