Brooklyn Beer and Soda
On top of it, the people that run the place are super nice.
Loving the changes.

yup. I actually walk past four bodegas that sell beer on Washington to buy there.
...the fact that they are cheaper also makes we willing to haul the 12 pack back home.... -
where is this located?
-
its a beer distributor, located almost at Pacific on Washington Ave.
(we are both too lazy to google) -
haha. i just googled it after asking because i felt like a dick not just looking it up myself. we go to the beverage place at bedford and prospect which is pretty decent, but if this place is more like biercraft we're gonna hike over. in the summer, walking to biercraft is fine - but it is way too cold to walk there for beer.

Whynot, if you're going to be snarky about something like that, you're supposed to post one of these links:

"lazy" is not equal to "jerk" after all. -
Yeah, this is a good place. They had the Rogue Santa beer when no one else did. Bierkraft it isn't but a very good resource.

Carnivore, that was beautiful. Now, can just explain to me how a doctor, early in his career, like you can have so much free time to surf the net? Wish I could manage my time as well as you. Some day, some day...

I'm not as early in my career as you think!

Selection at Bierkraft still far outstrips Brooklyn Beer and Soda by a long shot and there's no one that can compete with the counterpressure growler offerings at Bierkraft.
That having been said, I go to Brooklyn Beer and Soda for larger purchases for the better deals. They're selling cases of Warsteiner for a little over a dollar a bottle which is just an obscene deal for a great beer (it's what Bud-Miller-Coors should taste like). You can also get most of the Brooklyn beers in just about the same price range.
There are also some nice deals on sampler packs that come with glassware up in the front of the store.
Between the two stores this is a great neighborhood for beer options, at least at the retail level. -
On a related note, has anyone noticed the decline in beer selection at the Met? That used to be the store's one saving grace (aside from proximity to my home). I'm going to have to start taking the walk up Washington to Brooklyn Beer and Soda.

This place has great selection, but be careful to check the "sell by" or similar date. We bought a case of Hop Devil last fall and when we got home I noticed it was months past it's date, so i brought it right back and the guy at the counter tried to tell me that was the date it was made on not when it went bad. Which of course was ridiculous. Eventually he gave me my money back, but after a fight. Haven't been back.

I don't know of too many beers that have a "sell by" date but know of MANY that have a "made on" date. My hunch is that the store folks may have been right. Most retailers won't hesitate to take back an expired item, as their supplier takes the hit...not them. -
Um, I'm pretty good at reading, it clearly said "sell by" not "born on" or "made on" I'm not an idiot. I looked at other cases behind the ones that I picked from and they had dates in the future.
I'm just trying to alert people to a problem at this place. The beer probably would have not made us sick or anything, but the date is there for peek freshness and taste which I'm looking for. This place just wanted to get rid of old beer. Please keep you "hunches" to something you have actually witnessed. -

Fair enough.

gypsy is very on the money. This place sells a lot of old beer. Seems they're used to dealing with the macrobrews and their sustained long shelf life. Craft beer needs to be a bit fresher. I've seen things at this store going back 2 and 3 years. Be advised.
-
Bud is one of the few brewers to stamp a "born on" date. I don't drink their beer but I commend them for that. Fresh beer is better, and the consumer is best served knowing exactly how old the beer is. "Sell by" or "best if drunk by" dates are simply the date some unspecified period after the "born on" date.
And yes, Brooklyn Beer and Soda, while lacking the ethos of Biercraft, is an asset to the neighborhood. -
These guys are gone. Off to Prospect/Lefferts Gardens.

Moving on, I wonder will go into there old location on Washington. The upstairs went unused throughout their time there.

Noooo!!! This is a bummer.
But now my idea of wanting a craft brew place on Franklin seems less inane.

First post on the forum.
NOOOO NOOOOO No no no no no. I refuse to accept this. Wahhhhhh

welcome Ribbons! I am glad you saved your first post for something important.

I was so upset I made more typos than usual! This should read:

This sucks.
The Washington Avenue Merchants Association even lists their new address.

That's not a new location. That place has been there for years. We used to buy our beer in bulk from there back in the day. Didn't know that the same people owned it.
Did the liquor store across the street close as well or is that still open? It was also owned by the same family.
-
Yes, there has been a beer distributor over by Wendy's for quite some time. ...but I am over there less often.
I am grieving, it will take a time.
-
Shocked by the love. This place did get a lot of good craft beer but they 1. overcharged for it and 2. stored it incorrectly. They also had a lot of expired beer.
-
Sad. Was one of the closer places with a good craft beer selection to my apt.
-
I find myself vacillating between the Kubler Ross stages of grief.
At first I was angry at the proprietors for abandoning me, but am now looking for someone to blame.
I know I did my part to keep this business open, and now look at my svelte neighbors with anger and suspicion.
-
What are yall crying about? They moved a mile south! Hop on a bike and pipe down...lol This place is great! They're the only place I can find my Wolavers Altgracia Coffee Porter.
Howdy, Stranger!
