Newsstand?

Is that a newsstand newly installed in front of CVS on 9th St? Too far in the middle of the block for a bus stop. Don't know what else was going on around the Y with the wood structures.

The newsstand structure says CEMUSA on the side which is a Co. that does build newsstands/bus stops and public toilets. Odd place though.

    Very odd, considering CVS is 5 feet in front of it, which sells everything the newsstand does. I get that CVS lines are as slow as shit, but is this newsstand really necessary?

    It's a newsstand. A lonely, sad, unnecessary newsstand. In front of a 24 hour pharmacy that sells all of the same stuff and more.

    Am I missing something? I don't understand why peeps seem upset or disappointed in the newsstands very existence. I for one, like newsstands, because if I want to quickly grab a water or newspaper I find it far more convenient than running into CVS, navigating their labyrinth, and waiting in line forever. The structure is not an eyesore, and the proprietor seems like a nice guy who just wants to make a living. So can somebody explain why this is a bad thing? Just curious.

    d luxx..I have the same question.The tradition of newstands in this city goes way
    back. Not so long ago there was a newstand on the corner of 5th ave and 9th Street on the same side of street.

    i don't think it's as much of the newstand itself as where it's located. why there?? shouldn't this thing by at the corner of 4th Ave and 9th St?

    Why not there? Thats a pretty busy block, with the Y, dentists offices, etc. I fail to see how it affects the neighborhood in a negative way, just because CVS is nearby. The stuff that newsstands sell is not hard to find in any location, including 4th ave, but they've been around for years and years because many people find them practical.
    I'm not saying people's opinion isn't valid, just asking them to explain it.

    New flash: Someone posts an inane message to a message board about the existence of a newstand on a busy street, and then a bunch of concerned netizens helpfully verify the existence of the newstand, and then explain that newstands are often in places where humans are likely to walk by.

    It gives me great relief that we've been able to resolve this issue.

    Can someone please explain the hot dog/beverage vendors in and around Prospect Park?

    What's the deal there?

    so here's a question back to you. if this was your newstand and you wanted to maximize your income where would you place it, where it is now or a higher traffic area like 4th ave and 9th st?

    Pizza is such a good food to eat! If I wanted to sell pizza, I would set up a pizza shop near where people who like to eat pizza spend their time.

    Then you can walk half a block to 5th avenue where there is already a newsstand or 1.5 blocks where there are 2 newsstands on 7th avenue. Imagine that and no labyrinth at those stands.

    and now you have to cross all the way over to the other side of the avenue and use the newsstand on the opposite corner. :roll:

    Eggcream.. yes you can do that if you want to or shortly, you will have the option of the news stand in the middle of the block.
    So what?
    I really am missing why people object to this "new" news stand but everyone has a right to their own opinion.
