Is that the place on 7th and one of the name streets, or union? Under the tasti delite?

If so, my landlord owns that place*, yet the discount I get is not any more than what you get if you walk in off the street, I checked. So now I'm at NYSC.

*Clarification from other posting: I THINK my landlord owns this place, people seem to be upset that I stated he does. He may or may not.

You tell me. Slope Fitness Center's new management is trying to make the slope all flashy and push pricey "spa services" on members. I just want to a 45 minute work out, not get rubbed down, get a facial, or go way on any “exercise get-a-ways” with a bunch of personal trainers! The Slope Fitness Center's TVs have not worked since the makeover. There is also new cheap "decorative" furniture that's so delicate, I'm afraid to touch it. The personal trainers are on the hunt. If management aims to "improve" Slope Fitness Center, why not delete the tacky IKEA chairs and plastic plants and add more (and more exciting) classes or give members FREE water (instead of charging $1.00) or expand the locker room so none us have to continue “accidentally” rubbing against each other in the locker room…or sauna ?

I was just curious what others thought. They need to be spending the money on equipment out on the main floor (as promised months ago), not aesthetics. That dopey climber thing rarely gets used. Someone at the front desk said that water tower (you know, that one that looks like a washboard) cost $5,000. Same goes for that blue wall in the stretching area. I am also bugged by the last hour of vacuuming that goes on around me. Appreciate the need to want to keep it clean, but I'd rather see them wipe down the seats on the equipment. I'm clearly whining but they should have asked the customers what they wanted improved/changed. I liked this place because it wasn't shi-shi, and like you said, you go in and get a work out and call it done. We'll see. I hear the next order of business is a juice bar for all those who like to drink their ground up lawn.

    Hahaha, lol
  • Subject: I do not go to the gym to look at flowers or drink grass.

Yes, Slope Fitness should spend money on equipment on the main floor, not aesthetics. What about more weights, elliptical machines, running treadmills and cycles instead of the "dopey climber thing" that SUCKS? The locker rooms and stretching area need expansion. If SF has extra cash, they should keep the bathrooms stocked with toilet paper, tissues and soap dispensers that work before trying to sell T-shirts. I also signed up at Slope Fitness because it was not a "shi-shi" boutique spa trying to sell $80+ massages and my own ground up lawn in a biodegradable cup branded with the Slope Fitness logo. While improvement is great, don't fix what’s not broken. I liked SF just fine last summer.
  • So, remind me of the cost per month, and the sign up fee? It's been a while since I was in there. Personally, I joined NYSC cause there is a new one near my office and they're offering $69/mo with a $39 sign up fee. They have plenty of towels, TP, shampoo, the place is very clean and all the classes are included, plus I can go to any NYSC in the city/state, plus Boston and all the other area ones that I'll probably never get to... still, one near my home and a different one near my office, can't beat that!
  • used to belong to SF but am now at Harbor. The classes are so much better and there is more equiptment

Love the subject line of your post. Too cute. Wonder if anyone that works there reads these message boards. Perhaps we should alert them :)

I'm not sure, but I think the Slope Fitness sign-up fee is around $200. and then around $70. a month.
  • What are all the gym options in Park Slope?
  • Harbor Fitness (5th and 15th)
YMCA (9th St btw. 5th/6th Ave)
    Slope Fitness

That's all I can remember right now
  • Parkslopedope wrote: What are all the gym options in Park Slope?
my wife and I use the YMCA on 9th St. It's something like $69 month for a family after the 20% discount for being in AARP (bunch of other orgs get discount too, llike teachers or work for Citibank)

there's one with a big eagle on it, like 5th and maybe union, that area...
  • what is the name of the one on 5th that used to be a bank? Is that the one with the eagle on it?
  • Flexichick wrote: what is the name of the one on 5th that used to be a bank? Is that the one with the eagle on it?
I think it's called Body Reserve
  • Flexichick wrote: what is the name of the one on 5th that used to be a bank? Is that the one with the eagle on it?
yeah that's the one I was thinking of. I went in there but did not like the feel.
  • Just FYI, I'm not a member or anything, but on my way to work this morning the Slope had two large trucks outside delivering new equipment.
  • there's also Crunch (formerly PS Sports Club) on flatbush & 7th. I think it's $83/month for the "unrestricted" plan. i.e. you can go whenever. No liquid lawn bar though.

The TVs at Slope Fitness are still broken. They've been broken ever since the pretty furniture and flowers arrived. SF just received new equipment to replace equipment that did not seem to need to be replaced. Maybe the former equipment was broken and replacements were critical...or maybe SF wants all their equipment to match the pretty new furniture...who knows?
  • Subject: the slope's imrovements

I don't understand all the venon that is being directed at the Slope Health & Fitness. I've lived and worked here my whole life, and let me tell you, that the club is a hell of alot better than the old health club that was in there back in the 80's. In fact, the owners of Body Reserve on 5th avenue used to be in that space. Talk about a meathead gym. It was disgusting, and there used to be a restaurant, the old Purity, was above it. The smells, and the rodents that used to be there, was disgusting. No one remembers how bad it used to be. The Slope is a blessing compared to what was there before.

All you newcomers to the area have no idea. People should maybe think before they speak.

I'm a member of this club, and I think that the changes are great. The new manager has really invigorated the place. I think the old manager just gave up, and it showed. I hope that they keep it up.
MOD NOTE: these guest posts loving on Slope H&F are by the same person talking to himself. Buyer beware!

  • Thank you very much. It gladdens my heart to know that there are some intelligent reasonable people here after all. The Slope has elevated this area, and I hope that they continue their good work. Look at their latest promotion. Saving the Rain Forests. FANTASTIC.

*he* has an axe to grind, but an anonymous guest who simulataneously posts to four different threads including inaccurate info about Body Reserve, a complaint about Harbor Fitness and damns Crunch for not being a family business doesn't have an agenda?

At least my opinions are honest.

Did you READ any of the above posts? People listed their complaints, they did not just bitch and moan. Seems to me they know pretty damn well what they're thinking of before they speak. Comparing it to a crappy gym from before does not excuses the current problems people seem to have with it.

Seems to me that this gym has addressed those issues, but a more personal vendetta is at work here. If you don't like it, then don't join. But keep your opinions to yourself. People may have another opinion besides yours.

except that your comment elsewhere about Body Reserve leaving their 7th Ave location is blatantly false, and it seems odd that you'd go to the trouble of posting negative comments about Body Reserve, Harbor and Crunch on four different threads, plus by posting anonymously, you lose credibility.

Dude, do you work there or something? THIS ENTIRE MESSAGE BOARD IS FOR OPINIONS. I don't have a "personal" vendette against ANY gym. I did not "like" it because it was more expensive, smaller and did not have multiple locations, so yeah, I didn't join, oh and had a higher sign on fee. Maybe you'd be better off on a communist dictatorship board where no opinions were allowed.

Also, you tell ME that others have differing opinion, but in the same breath tell me to keep mine to myself? I'd almost bet money that you work for this gym. Otherwise, you'd be like everyone else and just sharing an opinion and letting others do the same. Or maybe you're angry from too many 'roids!
