This sounds fantastic! I always thought something like this would do well there. If they stay open late (hopefully at least 12) they'll get tons of business from the neighborhood bars.

Eton in Carroll Gardens won 2009 "Best New Dumplings" in Time Out New York. They also have shaved ice, Hawaiian style.

It's open. Had some dumplings and ramen tonight. Was outstanding. They are a
Ittle slow but I am sure that is just some opening kinks they need to work out. Dumplings were outstanding and the Ginger sauce was very good. -
went there tonight. had to wait almost 20 min for two saimin (soup) orders. hubby didn't get the chicken or half the toppings that were suppose to come with it. my veggie was correct. the broth is extremely salty. i'm chalking it up to infancy (at this location) and the fact there were a ton of people. will try the dumplings next round.

Meh. I waited a long time. They said that they make them to order, and that got my hopes up for the best dumplings ever. Meh.
Hopefully they'll do something to spice up this food. I've never been to their other location, but are the dumplings there this bland? They felt so uninspired. I didn't know a pork dumpling could be so flavorless. Definitely needed chives and spices. The chicken was equally boring. The veggie ones had a lot more flavor but were strange with their lentil/celery/tofu/noodle filling. And the top part of the veg ones fell apart as soon as I picked them up, so I was just scraping lentil bits off my plate. The bottoms of all the dumplings were seared, and I was excited to see that because a crispy dumpling bottom can be delish, but these were so hard I had trouble biting through them. And I have sharp teeth! I'm willing to bet any old mediocre Chinese takeout in the nabe would have better dumplings.
I guess it's just as well. I LOVE dumplings, and having an amazing dumpling joint right on my block would be really dangerous. (But I'm still disappointed and sad.) Please, someone post on here if they improve. I'm hoping they do, and then I'll definitely give them a second try. -
Went last night and the chicken on rice dish was so salty it was inedible. Saimen soup was okay. Back to Maya Taqueria for us.

Okaaay. The first reports do not sound promising. I need to wait until they work out the kinks. I don't understand food kinks in a restaurant's second location. Service kinks yes. Food kinks, no.

I gave this place a whirl last night and I thought the dumplings were especially delicious. Huge, stuffed dumplings, wrapped in crispy-fried soft and chewy dough. I tried the sampler, and all three were pretty good, with the vegetable ones being the least favorite. Far superior to anything else available in the 'hood. Also had the rice-noodle soup with pork - the noodles were something else, and the soup will clearly hit the spot on a cold winter night.
The food does take a little longer than one might hope, and the delivery system needs some refinement, but I plan on revisiting the place soon and often. Also, the owner went out of his way to make up for a botched delivery that was really attributable to the wrath of God hailstorm. -
Went earlier tonight and was very happy with it. Ordered meat broth with rice noodles and pork and the pork dumplings. They said it'd be 10 minutes, and it was 10 minutes almost exactly (this is at 730P on a Wed night).
The soup was very heavy on the pork, and delicious pork it was, along with baby bok choy and some other veggie goodies. Unlike the one in Carroll Gardens, you have to ask for the sauces you want here, they don't just have the bottles laying out. Make sure to get the hot chili oil.
About halfway through the noodles I ran out of dumplings and asked the guy for more. This time he said it'd be 15 minutes, which I was ok with, but luckily it ended up being only 3 minutes.
They're open til 11P on weeknights and 12A on weekends, or at least are planning to. They haven't been open for a weekend yet, but the owner was very aware of the need to stay open for the late night bar crowd. Hopefully they can be convinced, and will have the business to support, staying open til 2A on weekends. Otherwise there's still Branded (3AM!), The Vanderbilt and Woodwork for late night food. -
As a side note (I have not yet been to the new location), the house made plum sauce is excellent.

Hmm. Service must be pretty hit or miss. After remarking that I would wait a while before trying, the husband mentioned that a light dinner would be nice, and since neither of us felt like cooking, a'Eaton-ing we went.
Hopefully they'll work out the kinks. Don't know how many people they had working there, but I saw at least four. In spite of that, we ended up waiting 30 minutes for an order of five dumplings and soup. An order that turned out to contain the wrong kind of dumplings! Thirty minutes after that, I finally had the correct dumplings. Both the pork and chicken varieties are tasty, and now I have lunch tomorrow!
I will write: the dumplings were delicious and very fresh. The soup was also very good. Was either worth the 30 (or 60 depending how you look at it) minute wait? Not in my opinion. I'll pretty much do anything for amazingly good food, but I was not digging the atmosphere, the music, or that everything is served in a disposable container.
And yes, the plum sauce: yum! -
Got delivery tonight. Dumpling sampler, chicken rice bowl, pork rice bowl, pork ramen. Arrived at my house in about 30 minutes. Everything was very tasty. (I didn't personally taste the ramen but my friend loved it.) The rice platter meat reminded me of NC barbecue, juicy and sauceless. The dumplings were pretty fantastic (even the veggie ones.) Obviously way more expensive than Prosperity or Vanessa's but until PH develops a Chinatown this will more than suffice. Definitely will order again. Gotta try those shave ices.

Are they open for lunch? Thinking I should try them at midday first to judge the food; then I can go back on an evening to judge the speed/service.

Got vegetarian dumplings and seiten sliders tonight. The dumplings are sooooooo good. Seriously, so good.
The slider though was not. It fell apart almost immediately and the inside was really chewy (couldn't bite through it) yet the roll was really soft and fell apart.
That said, it was decently priced (not much more than Bristen's which does NOT have a vegetarian dumpling!) and seriously, so good.
So glad they deliver to Crown Heights. -
My wife and stopped in last night. I just want to say that Eton's dumplings and soups are seriously great. I think their business has been slow this winter, so I hope everyone will get out and support this first rate local business.. Eton is also a really friendly guy.
