According to the story there was a murder on July 18, 2008. The closest date of a homicide on Sterling (according to the NYTimes Murder Map) was a July 17, 2008 shooting around the corner of Sterling and Rochester.

Alleged BK gang members swept up in police raid
BK gang members swept up in police raid
(08/26/10) BROOKLYN - Police say 12 alleged Crown Heights gang members have been arrested on murder, racketeering and drug charges.
An indictment unveiled yesterday in Brooklyn Federal Court said the men sold crack and heroin on a one-block stretch of Sterling Place for more than a decade and are responsible for a number of shootings and slashings.
All the alleged gang members face at least 10 years in prison if convicted. -
Federal?
So is this the new tactic, "go after them on federal charges"?
....it is strange the Bklyn DA didn't want this case.
Lack of resources for a long term investigation?
Lack of faith that they would get any real time in New York State?
all of the above? -
Who knows that block is the worst block in the confines of the 77 pct.

Awww man, I used to walk by the former "bloodiest block in brooklyn" on the way to the subway. It sucks that it's been usurped."NY Times wrote: The bloodiest block in Brooklyn was in the 77th Precinct, in Crown Heights, bounded by Schenectady Avenue, Sterling Place, Troy Avenue and St. Johns Place.
