High profile murder in Crown Heights

Comments

  • I was just reading that. I go past those places every day -- Both the restaurant and the nightclub. I thought the club was shut down, so both interesting that the club was open again and that the restaurant is open that early in the morning. It always looks like they're just getting food going when I go past at 7 in the morning.

Sidenote: I think it's weird that they show that photo with a caption saying he was shot after going to a nightclub - even though this is the restaurant he went to afterwards and not tropiks across the street (the classy place with bars on the windows and scrolling lights behind them)
  • Very sad no matter what, though.
  • What part of Crown Heights is this?
  • It's on Utica close to Empire Blvd. .....so South Eastern Crown Heights?
  • it's weird that they had an international soccer match on a high school field in east new york

Not when you consider the countries participating. If they were a bunch of European countries I would find it beyond weird.

What is this? The fourth murder in the 71st this year?
  • Really, really sad and pointless. Man has to prove he's the bigger man. When he can't, he needs a gun.
  • No WCW, sadly, there is a point. A large number of Black men are quite threatened by Black excellence. A large number of us hate to be reminded that we can achieve great things despite the odds. A large number of us want to be lulled into antipathy and the sense that we will never amount to anything. A large number of us are crabs in the proverbial barrel, pulling at the legs of those with the gumption to do better.

The best way to do this is with a bullet in the back of the head. Right now a killer walks the street, or worse, SLEEPS unafflicted by the horror that he has committed.

As an aside, newcomers to Brooklyn and the Brooklynian will see this murder as an example of how unsafe the borough is. Well, I say in response to that perspective, if you are Black, then yes, be afraid, be very afraid, but if you are white, then more than likely you will be alright... We are in the tailend of one of the greatest catastrophes to ever happen in the world: worldwide, Black men are killing other Black men at extraordinary rates. On my way home today my eyes made contact with a young brother riding a bicycle and he glared at me and spat... Be afraid if you're Black, don't worry if you're not. Seriously. And with that a gunshot barked just awhile ago...
  • Subject: Another murder, at Utica and Caroll, in Crown Heights

At a club called Tropics. Anybody ever been there or even heard of the place? Read all about it in the NY Post

Just another day in fun filled CH.
  • Sorry, that's Caroll, if you care (ol).

it's already being discussed. I work down the street. it's a sketchy place from the outside to be sure - and i didn't think it was even open again after a long time of their classy electric sign being off.

MOD NOTE: these threads have been merged.
  • nervous because i thought it was 2 murders at the same club in a row -- but sad none-the-less.
  • It's CarRoll.
  • sorry, my "R" is sticking.
  • If this is the same place that I am thinking about, Tropics Lounge is on Utica and Montgomery. It is in my area and for the time that I have lived in Crown Heights, I think I may have went in there twice for a short period of time and I have never seen it crowded but I have never heard of anything particular happening in it. In fact, I thought it was stilled closed since it never seems to be that active.

It was reported in the paper that the shooting may have occurred due to an altercation in the bar that a woman that was with the gentleman had. No matter what the situation was it was a pointless shooting and I hope the perpetrator is apprehended.

If it was someone that was in the bar that did this, then the patrons need to speak up since, it appears, that the majority of people that frequent it do know each other in some manner or another.
  • Admin, can you merge this and previuos topic, as they are both about the same event.
Jack, please note that I posed the NY Post story on this murder previously under a different topic.
The Post sited the Tropcs club at Carroll and Utica. I believe the Councilwoman Darlene Mealy has her office on Utica and Union, two blocks away. If this happens two blocks from her office, I can only imagine what goes on further away.
Regardless, this is a long way away from the "Crown Heights" on Franklin Avenue.
