Has anyone brought gold/jewelry/timepieces to SELL to 7th Avenue Jewelry and Timepieces? If so, what has your experience been with their operation?

I am looking to sell some jewelry and costume jewelry and am looking for folks who have had actual experience selling or consignment in our area. Thanks!

  • Not sure what type of stuff you have, but from what little experience I have, you can make MUCH more $$ just selling it on ebay. Avoids the middle man and you'd be surprised how much people will pay because the audience and competition is so large.

That said :D ummm, is there anything I can buy off you at a reasonable price? I love old jewelry!
  • Subject: what did you end up doing?

    Stoop Lady,

What did you end up doing? I was considering bringing some gold in there ... The Jewelry store on 7th near President also buys gold.

Mamacita, I was wondering about that. Despite how high the value of gold is, it does seem like you lose something selling this way, depending on the piece, and eBay might be the better way to go.

    Cat.
  • Went to a legitimate gold dealer in the diamond district...my friend referred me there as she and some friends had been going there for years.
  • Thanks. I did the same actually. A friend didn't have the best impression of that jeweler -- but I can't say from first hand experience.

I think if you want to sell your gold by weight it's a good option - definitely worth checking around because the amount you get can vary greatly by pennyweight and worth reading up on it first (lots of information online) - but if the piece (s) is (are) something very special, places like ebay might be better outlets for the jewelry to be treated like jewelry and get value as such.

    Thanks -
  • I'll be smarter the next time...IF...there is a next time.
    Next will be costume jewelry.
It was not about the money entirely, that is why I chose to do it this way.

Here is something just advertised on NPR, for goodness sake!

Also, there was an ad in this month's MORE magazine inviting it's "type" of readers to inquire about selling their jewelry...don't remember the name.

Lastly, you can't just sell valuable jewelry, esp. diamonds, etc., you have to be licensed. Make sure you know exactly where the jewelry came from. If it is stolen or has an unknown history, there are ways the jewelry can be traced for legal purposes...and FAST!
