But the energy and anger and violence in the Islamic world is so misplace.

they could spent that same energy and and anger improving their nations educations economies etc... instead of threaten to kill and bomb and burn other peoples and things etc.. what a waste of time. all those massive protest and violence over the threat Koran burning.

also same goes for the guys who protesting the mosque building thing in nyc. go place that energy into something constructive for once.

  • Clearly AW has visited the Florida outside of Disney World.

    Good job AW!

...those who have strayed from the showcase areas, agree that people who inhabit the Panhandle and the Everglades are truly in need of your advice (this comment is not sarcastic).

....the Snowbelt retirees are a whole different group.
  • Better they should spend their time blogging about imaginary racial slights, chronic victimization or adolescent wet dreams on their broadband accessible neighborhood bulletin boards.
Couldn't agree more. What's wrong with these people!
  • AW, let's head to Florida and set them straight.
  • The leaders of the countries in the Islamic world are very happy to have anger directed at the United States, because if the anger is not directed at us, it might be directed where it really belongs - against their own governments. Those governments are hardly representative, and the ruling elites keep most of the resources for themselves. It is undoubtedly an over simplification, but the powerless who have no hope of improving their situation often get angry. It it politically expedient for the ruling elite to identify a scape goat that can be blamed for the poverty and destitution of the masses. In Nazi Germany, the ruling elite blamed Jews, Gypsies, non-whites and homosexuals, in Saddam's Iraq it was the Kurds, in Iran, Syria etc it is the Americans. Our foreign policy isn't always helpful, especially as we sometimes like to find someone to blame for our less than ideal lives.

We'd have to realize there is no enemy at all, and that we no longer have the ability to rule the world as we once did, and enjoy an artifically high standard of living, because of macro economic factors at play. We could not claim we were victims, and therefore would have no justification for revenge. No government is really representative , and the ruling elites keep most of the resources for themselves. If you or I were "elite" we would do the same thing. It is undoubtedly an over simplification, but the powerless who have no hope of improving their situation often get angry. In Nazi Germany, the ruling elite blamed Jews, Gypsies, non-whites and homosexuals, in Saddam's Iraq it was the Kurds, in Iran, Syria etc it is the Americans. America seems to pick and choose its enemies based upon the day. Our foreign policy isn't always helpful, especially as we sometimes like to find someone to blame for our less than ideal lives.

At least they have the balls to stand up for what they believe in.

If someone planned to burn the Bible or Torah, publicized their intentions and urged everyone to consider Sept. 11th burn such and such day, Christians, and Jews would be just as angry. I hope they would be just as angry.

Seriously, you have no idea what you're talking about so PLEASE just STFU.
  • of course i don't  what a waste of energy.

religion isn't worth to kill a man over for and to die for. just a form of slavery of the poor and uneducated.
  • Whether you think they should be attached to their religions or not isn't the issue.

People ARE attached to thier religions, just like they are their race, sexual orientation, etc.

If you want to annoy someone, insulting/denigrating one or more of the above is a pretty sure fire way to get a reaction. If you called someone a racial or sexual insult to their face, you expect a reaction.

Religion is the same way. There are other instances in "life" where we give people permission to be pissed as well. For example, if I saw AW walking with his girlfriend (if you are gay, please take no offense) and then made eye contact with you and said something highly offensive about her. ...you'd have a right to be upset.

You'd know I was doing it to pick a fight, and see whether you were a "had the balls" to do do anything in return.

In this instance, Muslims are expressing that they are upset by marching in the streets. They perceive the pastor as speaking on behalf of our country, a perception that is influenced by approximately two decades of bombing Iraq, and fanned by their version of Fox news. [every country has a sensationalist, unresponsible news source....., but I digress]

    Back on topic.
Em points out that at some point, every group stands up and says something like "yo, you people need to stop that shit. We aren't going to sit here and take this silently anymore."

Those demonstrating in the streets feel this way.

So did those who participated in....
    Stonewall
    LA riots
    MLK and Malcolm X riots
    Union riots
marches on Washington by various groups

and others that I am too lazy to type at the moment.

Moral of the story: Eventually the anger comes out, sometimes peacefully, sometimes not. ....telling people they should ignore the insult and just do thier laundry just adds to the initial insult.
  • insults and violence are two different issues.

someone insults someone else either religion race sex etc... insults does no bodily harm.

but when one turns it into violence thats totally unacceptable. when violence happens people have to right to fight back, burning a Koran isn't a good excuse to turn to violence. same goes for anything else.

people have to right to be angry if they get insulted by still not a good excuse to turn violent.

people need to learn self control. especially the Pope Urban II in the crowd.

In case there is confusion, this post referred to the Floridian.

Somehow the Floridian believes that the proposed Community Center gives him the right to insult and offend an entire religion.

Needless to say, the folks in the countries presently demonstrating disagree.

They perceive that the Floridian escalated the situation without cause, and that we are doing nothing to "control him".

(if you have no such "freedom of expression" rights in your home country, can you see how they would expect the government of the US to step in and stop him?)

....even if they understand that our government does not attempt to control such "freedom of expression", they may simply perceive that the pastor's escalating it without cause gives them the right to escalate without cause.

I agree, no one has the right to be violent first, but everyone has a breaking point. ....and some (correctly or not...) believe that the US was violent to them first.

....if one insults people enough, they punch you. Especially if they believe they have no other way to get back at you.

While many point out that "an eye for an eye makes the whole world blind", Malcolm X accurately points out that "Nonviolence is fine as long as it works."
  • Once I knew this guy named Joe.
    He was a complete dick.
Therefore I now hate all people named Joe.
  • Islam and democracy cannot coexist. Unfortunately, those moderate muslims do not represent REAL muslims - REAL MUSLIMS are those that you see in the Middle East, people who don't like you just because you wear open clothes.
Islam is against Democracy and Freedom. It treats women like meat and it's exetremely aggressive towards non muslims. Do you honestly believe that they would blow themselves up if they were Buddhists? Or Christians? Or Zoroastrians? - No, they wouldn't. It's the same part that keeps on malfunctioning all over the world, and all you do is turn another cheek? Then you are a True Christian. Holy You
  • I would never wanna live in any muslim country, regardless of how wealthy it is.
It's not just the problem of Islam, but it's also a CULTURAL problem: most islamic nations have strong, deeply rooted TRIBAL traditions, where a TRIBE is the Holy Cow, not the Individual as in the West.
It's the same tribal mentality that prevents most muslim countries from becoming truly successful, it keeps their mental potential down.
Yes, they do have a right to practice their religion but if they do it here, they must make sure that it doesn't go against OUR principles, because it's OUR country and they live HERE, not THERE.
  • if you really wanna see what happens if you combine Islam+Brainwashing+Young Poor People, go to liveleak (use (c)oms and (d)ots yourself) and look for the yesterday's suicide bombing at a crowded market. Mortally wounded people are burnbing alive - Is it worse than burning Koran?
This is what muslims should be offended of, not some childish book burning stunt
