So what would america do or should do when Mexico fails?

I heard some commentary recently that suggested our most effective strategy may be to relax our drug interdiction efforts in the West Indies (Caribbean) region, because it would to reduce the flow of drugs and $ (and therefore violence) in Mexico.
....what a world. -
thats just transferring the drug problem towards that area. remember the shootouts in Jamaica? l

I am not saying this would solve the problem.
...I am stating that I found the commentary somewhat thought provoking.
I agree with you, the only way for us to stop "violence caused by the drug trade" is to either
1. Stop using illegal drugs.
2. Legalize drugs.
Yes, the commentator seemed to present an option that would simply move the violence somewhere else. .....kinda like when the police raid a local drug hot spot. -
But you know how wise our politicians are probably would sent in troops or throw more money into the problem.
-
....domestically, they have continued to invest in prisons over treatment and have tried to fight legalization every time it it raised. (aka not pursue 1 or 2, and instead use force and resources).
So, yes, I think they act (and will continue to act) the same way outside of the country.
But if you need a job, fighting the drug war or imprisoning users is one of your safest bets.
....avoid the drug treatment field or working for NORML. http://norml.org/ ....those jobs suck. -
bruce ratner should build them an arena
that seems to stop all kinds of traffic -
just give Texas, Arizona, New Mexico, and most of California back to Mexico.
problem solved. -

Yes please !!
BTW, Mexico is commemorating the bicentennial of its Independence movement and the centennial of its Revolution. So stop the hating for a bit AW!! :P -
Apropos of legalizing prostitution, it is already legal, have you seen the N.Y.S. Legislature in operation?

Pot maybe. Heavy Drugs - Never. Just think about it: does America have enough junkies, tobacco smokers, alcoholics, drunk drivers, lung cancer victims, junk food victims and mentally unstable borderline cases so we have to add the new Army of Darkness? What makes you think that it wont happen? Alcohol is legal and we have tens of millions of alcoholics(yes, this is the real number) and many more habitual users who suddenly "popped up" after alcohol was "legalized". Forget about ten million, even if we'd have 1 million more heroin addicts, it would turn your daily life into hell. Just look up the dopamine-endorphine release levels for all major controlled and uncontrolled substances: Alcohol, Sex and Food top out at 120 units. Cocaine gives you 300, Heroin, PCP, Crack give you 600-700 and finally, Chrystal Meth pushes it over 1200 units. These heavy drugs completely ruin your normal brain functions, which shows up on you MRI and Catscan right away, even if you are a habitual user. Even habitual Pot use always shows up on the scan, not to mention the fact that smoking Pot fills your lungs with tar just as fast as your "regular" cigarette does. But let's leave our "sacred" pot aside, lets talk about heavy drugs: have you ever see a person under the influence of heavy drugs? Crack? Heroin? PCP? Meth? - People turn into beasts! We have so many mentally unstable people in our far from healthy nation that i dread the day they will get access to cheap heavy drugs in your local deli.
Honestly, would you want your 14 year old daugher to pass through your city park at 3pm, knowing that there are Meth Delis all around it? - I wouldn't. And
neither should you.
Heavy drugs are not drugs at all - they are Poisons! Just because they "come from nature" doesn't mean that they should be used by humans(you don't see animals use them), just like some other stuff like Tetradotoxin(deadly natural poison) which also comes from nature. Uranium comes from nature too by the way and it doesn't make it less toxic to humans than Plutonium which is a man made enriched product.
Legalizing Pot will not change anything and there is one more thing to remember: Mexico leaders come from people of Mexico, just like any other leaders in other countries. Corruption was always a part of Mexico's culture and it's not going anywhere soon.
I hope i'm not blasphemous but even if Jesus Christ himself would become the next president of Mexico, the drug war would not stop.
Finally, i will always remember what my Spiritual Teacher have told me a long time ago: " Truly Happy People Never Use Drugs" -

Let's make sure Mexico gets not just the land, but the people residing in the states at the time of the giveway as well. I propose the following Four Step Plan....
First step: Keep pending giveway a secret.
Second step: Convince people we do not like (especially political opponents) to voluntarily move to those states. (exploratory research indicates many people I dislike live there already)
Third step: Hire Mr T., then --under the cover of night--- secretly rescue people we like from those states while using a fleet of A-team type vans.
Fourth step: Sign the deed for those states over to Mexico.
Who is with me? -
Also, Mexico would suddenly have to deal with California's $20Billion deficit
-
you guys are funny talking about giving Texas to Mexico. the Texans would kick Mexico's ass all over again.

I know what the Mexican government is going to do, party its like 1999.
It is the party of the century - or of two centuries. Mexico is preparing for the largest ever celebration of its independence this week.
But the run-up to the festivities to mark 200 years of independence has been marred by accusations of overspending, bad planning and security concerns.

"This kind of money could be used in lots of strategic ways, to help social development, to help public security, and to help the economic growth of the country”
End Quote John Ackerman Political analyst at Mexico's Autonomous University
And in a country in the midst of a drug conflict that has killed more than 28,000 people since late 2006, many think there is simply not much to celebrate.
The federal government, however, has been adamant that Mexico should use this chance to celebrate all things Mexican, sparing no expenses.
The total bill for the events, concerts and ceremonies during the whole of this year reaches $230m (£148m).

Wow, ....28,000 people over the last four years.
This story is being undercovered by our media.
Or maybe I'm not reading the right media.
...that's a lot of people. -
It's still a lower death rate than Colombia in the 80s/90s and a few other strife-torn nations (not counting wars).
The rumors of Mexico's death are greatly exaggerated.
The borderland is a lawless warzone for sure, but it's not like centralized govt is about to evaporate across the whole country.
