The stupid scantron bubble sheet takes much longer to fill out (especially when picking 11 judicial delegates and 11 alternates) than just flipping the switches on the old machines. And when you scan it, you get no confirmation that what it read is what you selected. Finally, there is no printed record of what was scanned. I hope they're saving the original bubble sheets, and that they'll audit the system with random manual recounts, because otherwise this system is ripe for election fraud.

Also, pulling that big lever on the old machines just felt really official.

    i loved the lever, but after coming from a state with ballots you could actually see for yourself, the old machines always felt very, very fake to me.

    (on the other hand, it was a lot easier to see who you were "voting" for by name on those machines than on the illinois ballots, i'll grant you.)

    no doubt i will have complaints about the new system after i vote this afternoon....

    having now voted, i am with you, carnivore. that sucked.

    also, why did i only have 3 things on my ballot (AG, US Senate, Female District Leader)? is that really all i was supposed to have?

    what genuinely upsets me, though, was having the worker who fed my ballot into the machine look it over first. um, EXCUSE ME??? i do tend to wear my political heart on my sleeve, but i'm rather in favor of secret ballots, all the same. for the record: in chicago, we fed our own ballots into the machine.

    I'm in on the Dislike. Totally miss the giant lever.

    Nobody stood over me when I fed it in the scanner. And she said it didn't matter if it was face-up or down, which I hope is true.

    Heard on wnyc this morning that one Park Slope polling station was not open when the reporter went to vote at 7am. Jeeeeeez.

    Where were the 11 judicial candidates?
    I missed the lever and talking with neighbors.
    Also, what if you dropped your paper and someone saw your circles.
    I brought my voters' registration card and was told it was outdated...is it worth it to sign up again.
    Very weird experience at the polls except the workers seemed to know what they were doing.
    Give me the lever or give me?

    FYI, you don't need your voter registration card or any kind of ID. They're not allowed to ask you for it. If you don't know what election district you're in, you can give them your street address and they'll tell you.

    Thank you. Didn't know that we shouldn't or don't have to show ID (it is easier because it takes the workers a while to find the name without it) but like carrying it when I vote for some reason. :-k
