I wouldn't live over there and I have a (legal) shot gun in the apartment. Have fun.

Good. The last thing we need is another gun in the neighborhood, legal or not.
In regards to the commotion...no idea -

We heard it too but don't know anything. It's generally a quiet, friendly block. -

So who won? Franklin or Classon? -

I wish to place a bet on Franklin -

If this is what draws you to post on the board, then perhaps you shouldn't be living in Brooklyn. You might as well ask about the fender bender on Atlantic you saw, or the trash can that got knocked over on St. Marks place.
There's so much good stuff that happens in this neighborhood, yet by the look of this board you'd think it's all violence and mayhem. And you know how this board works: once it gets thrown out there, it takes on a life of its own.
I propose a litmus test, of sorts: Did something happen that put you in a reasonable state of fear for your own personal safety? If yes, then I can understand you asking about it. Otherwise, what do hope to gain from asking the question?
I know we all want what's best for this community, but freaking out over every disruption of the peace isn't exactly enforcing positive vibes. -
I wasn´t scared, I was just freaking annoyed that that stupid woman woke me up with her hysterical voice.
And yes, usually it is a quiet block.
Redcons, I´m glad you wouldn´t live here, that´s actually great news for all of us. Have fun you too! -

Where in the TOS on this site does it say that there's an obligation to only post good hood news?
For the typical... "non local"... seeing things like an open drug market and fighting in the streets might be a big deal + worth asking around about. I think it's silly to chide someone for asking a question about events that might compromise their safety.
And let's face facts- look at the CH forum index- there's a good mix of the good and bad. It's just reflective of what goes on in the neighborhood. Maybe you need to have a more realistic view of CH -
the debate on whether this board skews the violence of the neighborhood is ongoing.
As is the debate over whether this should be exclusively a happy place where we only focus on kittens and rainbows.

I would think its good to post such things so that others who may be in your area ( law abiding unsuspecting citizens should be alert to such goings on so they can be just a tad more alert while passing through the area). Wouldnt you want to be sure your childs route was reasonably safe and if some kind of trouble occured to tell her to lkeep extra vigilant? This is Brooklyn. Despite what Mayor Adolph Bloomberg states there is crime and its not as low as he would have you believe... its best for the public to be alert and to be aware of the kinds of things going on. This is NOT kansas you know.. If you want positive vibes all the time try california in a commune -

Possibly CTK. Then again, I actually live here, so I like to think my view is somewhat informed. Didn't you move?
I dunno. Last summer when there was a lot of violence going on in my neck of the woods, I went through a transition. At first I was concerned with every gunshot I heard. I would come onto this board, and people would talk about it. Maybe they'd get some info from KWAC or someone else. At some point I realized that the "What" didn't matter. Hearing speculation on who killed who over drugs or a girl gave me little comfort.
At some point I started caring more about the "why." Why the people outside my window thought it was okay to play loud music, deal drugs, fight and kill. I became more engaged with my surroundings and started getting to know my neighbors and neighborhood better.
I'm not saying we shouldn't know or care about the negative things that go on in our community. But I also don't think it does us any good to fetishize crime. And I think sometimes we do that. -

I did move. To be honest though it was more the doing of my particular location & concern for the safety of my girlfriend... as well as the deal we got on the place we're in now. But that's neither here nor there. I still have friends in CH and being that it was my first stop out of my parents house I've espoused a personal connection with it that I'm able to continue to foster through visits and this board. But w/e.
Let's just face facts. CH has a lot to offer, with some great blocks and a lot of culture. TBH there are a lot of things I miss about it. But it's also dangerous. Drugs & the ensuing fallout, break ins, muggings, hit n runs, these are all normal elements of the neighborhood. To turn a blind eye to them or not discuss them is not productive.
In the case of this thread and the OP, it's hard to gauge the OP's intent. To me is sounds more like someone gossiping than actually being concerned for their nabe... not fetishizing or showing legit concern. So w/e. But if this board is gonna mean something it should take the good with the bad, in amounts that are reflective with what is going on IRL. -
Gossiping? really? It was horrible violence in front of our homes that woke up my entire building/block in the middle of the night - and went on for at least an hour. Someone was beaten by someone in front of people doing nothing, and was screaming. I was concerned for them and did call the cops (who never came). We need to look out for each other, and not let someone get abused while we stand by expecting someone else to help. Generally it is a seemingly safe street.

Well, then this is more the issue for me. Cops never came. Not even eventually? That's pretty despicable for something that was going on for over an hour. -
Drunk shouting matches and even brawls were a regular occurrence when we lived on Smith Street, which is gentrification central
