  • Who told you they have another signoff and inspection this week? I was told, very clearly, that they have nothing else scheduled at all--that they are ONLY waiting at this point.

If someone at BKLYN Gold told you they still have an inspection next week, please let me know.

As for BKLYN Gold, don't absolve them of all responsibilty. It's a business, and they were willing to sign leases for Sept. 1. Giving them a free pass won't help.

:?: What do you mean we had an option to walk? :?: I was under the impression all was fine, now that i know it isn't...I seem to be stuck in a lease and am looking at homelessness right around the corner. Is there a way to break the lease and bail out all together?

Thanks to Rsquare and Dr. Quartermass for the positive vibes! I am totally stressing but reading this today makes me feel a little better.
  • we signed out lease in July for Sept 1. I'm definitely calling those numbers tomorrow.
  • you can't break it unless they are 3 months past the lease promise. there's a rider you sign that says they have 3 months to move you in and you get your money back or you can cancel now and lose all of it.
  • So from the looks of it, we definitely won't get to move in any time before October, huh? Do we know if they are providing any storage services or reimbursement for public storage next door?

Also, please let us know how it goes after you call the Borough President. I should do that too.

No, I wouldn't say that at all. From the looks of it, there's no way to tell when we're going to be able to move in. As far as the building has said, everything is done on their end, everything is in, there are no inspections left, and they are only waiting on DOB. If that's true, then you could be moving in next week. Who knows. But if we just start assuming that nobody will move in before October, then nobody will, because there will be no pressure on DOB or the building.
  • I called Marty Markowitz's office, Brooklyn Borough President today and reported the issue. They're going to investigate starting Monday. Next call is to Brooklyn Housing and Family Services (Jonathan Goss at 718-435-7585) on Monday morning.
  • Subject: BKLYN Gold Move-In Dilemma

So, just to make it clear, we are in need of the DOB approval on the completed inspection and the installation from ConEdision? Did Michaela say anything else to you guys? I just really don't trust her anymore with anything and want to make sure we're all on the same page.
  • BrooklynGoldHomeless--I don't know what they're waiting on, but I'm told that the building has nothing left to do; they're just waiting for whatever approvals are necessary. I strongly recommend that you call Marty Markowitz's office, and perhaps email that office your correspondence with the building.

I'm hoping we can get through to Markowtiz's office, who might be able to get DOB to prioritize the building and really get things rolling.
  • Thanks, doib. I will be sure to do that on Monday.

Also, are we allowed to contact the DOB ourselves?

    :?

What do you mean by "allowed"? You could always try. But I'm not sure it would help, because DOB has no real reason to be responsive. But the borough president is an elected politician, and local politicians love this kind of stuff. All he has to do is get the DOB to prioritize our building and he'll probably get a couple hundred votes out of it. That's my thinking, anyways.

If you do try to get through to DOB, let us know what they say. Maybe they will be responsive.

ThinkFast--What floor is your apartment on? And have you lived in NYC before? A lot of your complaints seem pretty typical of NYC, if you live on a low floor and a busy street.
  • ThinkFast, you sound a little cranky. Are you from the boonies? Of course there is noise in the city. Everyone on this thread who has signed a lease does not need to hear all this but, at least we can be aware if these particular things happen in our building.

In terms of the "projects". It's obvious the area is gentrifying. It's up to the lessees to research the neighborhood.

To everyone, I heard from Marty Markowitz's office, Brooklyn Borough President this morning. They've contacted their connection at the DOB and will be following up with me on progress. Fingers crossed that this gets done in the next few days. A call the the Family and Housing department is next.

Anyone thought about news stations? Hello Help Me Howard! :)
  • This is absolutely a forum for us to express our frustration about our delayed move in date Thinkfast. I wonder if you had to go through what we are dealing with now? If so please offer advice to us on how to get on the other side of this if not, don't renew your lease Your complaints seem valid and put me on guard to an extent. But come on, what unit do you occupy why did these things not occur to you when you looked at the place? This is a frustrating time and we are all doing our best to stay positive even though we don't have a roof over our heads like you do good sir.

Anywhooo...others in the 257 Gold , let's get to calling Marty's office en masse.

Is anyone looking into a temp sublet while we ride this out? It's scary out there trust me. Either really expensive or affordable and nasty.

My fingers are crossed that Michaela will have a forward moving update for us tomorrow and maybe we should all gather at bar and have the largest beer in the world when this is all said and done..
  • Dr. Quartermass wrote: we should all gather at bar and have the largest beer in the world when this is all said and done..
    yes. this.
  • The DOB link has new requirements updated today! Several! This might be a good sign, guys. Then again it might not be. But it might be!

  • Fingers crossed that this gets done before the end of the month! My question is why couldn't BKLYN Gold call the borough president's office?
  • Because BKLYN Gold doesn't vote. We're future constituents, that's why Markowitz's office cares.
  • Start calling today. My call is in and they are to contact me later I am told. They also said I was not the first to contact them about this and a person has been assigned to investigate this issue.
Is there anyway we can get a count of how many leases are signed for this building and how many of us lease holders are in limbo?
  • You could try asking the leasing office, but I don't know if they will tell us. Otherwise, I think we have to estimate.

Are they calling you back today? I'm interested to hear what they say.
  • I just spoke with Tanya at Marty Markowitz's office. She is amazing and that whole office is amazing. She doesn't have anything to report yet but she is clearly working on it. She says they will push as hard as they can to find a resolution and will call all of us back by Thursday at the latest. I love Marty Markowitz's office - they are always amazing when I call.
  • Does anybody knows what is the real reason we're not moving in?
I was suppose to move in on October 1st, but I'm guessing that will never happen...
I think that they are so unprofessional to the point that it's really hurting us!!
  • well, I just got an e-mail from Michaela. She said that they are waiting for occupancy approvals from the Building Department.
I hope they will receive it by the end of this week because it's driving me crazy not knowing anything.
  • Just got the following e-mail from Mchaela,

Please be advised that we are still waiting for occupancy approvals from the Building Department. Even though we expect the final approvals very soon, we have no definitive occupancy date at this time. You will be notified as soon as we receive the approvals and we will be prepared to move you in right away.

Thank you for your continuing patience.

    Michaela

How NON-descriptive. Even better, it was FORWARDED! I hope the BK Presidents Office comes through.
  • We all got the same email. At least try Michaela
  • Frustrating but not Michaela's fault. She only has the info she gets. I would never ant her job!

Hopefully we all get good new within the next few days!

I am always a Sept 30 move in date (haha) and have nooo idea where/what I am doing.
  • Any news from Markowitz's office today?

For those who are hoping to move on their start dates in the next few weeks, what are you doing about cable/internet? Are you setting up appointments and just hoping?
  • What cable providor I set up an appointmnet with is the least of our concerns folks.

The following update may freak you out, but PLEASE stay level headed until we have more hard info.

    Here goes…

I spoke with Tanya Hill at the Brooklyn Borough President's office today. She is handling the fiasco that is the Bklyn Gold buildings.

As an FYI, she said there are major objections to 277 Gold which the architect has not responded to so they are in no way close to getting a permanent certificate of occupancy.

As for 257 Gold, that address has no application for TCO on record with the DOB, but I did say we on this board found the alias 235 Gold Street on the DOB Website and that seems to be our building. She is double checking that currently and will get back to us with an update as she may have been looking "under the wrong rock"..

I informed her that they may have (based on the amount of units in the building and the amount of time they have been showing apartments here) as many as 300 security deposits and non-preferential 1st month's rent for September 1st move-ins to a building which has no application for even a TCO. She told me the next step here is to take this issue to the Attorney General's office.

Let’s continue to actively communicate with Tanya and Marty’s office collectively.

AGAIN, LETS NOT HAVE A HEART ATTACK JUST YET!
  • They definitely have an application for a TCO. They want to get it as badly as we want them to. It's got to be that 235 Gold St. building. Keep us updated!
  • I highly doubt that there isn't even an app for the TCO on 257. People are living in 277 and I have a feeling 235 is the 3rd tower they're building.

I am starting to get worried though if the DOB is having trouble getting this done with the push of the borough presidents office.
