Carl Paladino's Letter to Andrew Cuomo

Go Carl!Carl Paladino Tries To Push Andrew Cuomo's Buttons In Debate-Challenge Letter
It's difficult to understand why you, a polished veteran campaigner, scion of a political dynasty and king-designate, would fear a simple businessman from Buffalo, who candidly has never been in a debate in his life -- except maybe in a bar.
Frankly, I dont think you have the cojones to face me and the other candidates in a open debate. I dont think you have the cojones to answer direct questions regarding the mistakes you made at HUD in pushing a sub-prime mortgage scheme that cost taxpayers $2.4 trillion dollars and cost most New Yorkers the value of their 401-Ks.
I dont think you have the cojones to answer questions about why you embraced ethically-challenged Charlie Rangel while pledging to clean up corruption. I don't think you haved the cojones to defend why some were prosecuted in the Hevesi Pension scandal while others - including many of your key supporters - were not.
So Andrew, for the first time in your life be a man. Don't hide behind daddy's coattails even though he pulled strings to advance your career every step of your way. Come out and debate like a man.

it's hard for me to understand why anyone who wanted to be taken seriously by a majority of the electorate would persist in forwarding racist emails.

Why is it racist? -
-
I believe the question is now "why vote him?"
-
Paladino's public fixation on male genitalia is remarkable. Perhaps Christine O'Donnell of Delaware could help him in this matter. :-)
-
LOL'D at Salix. Good one!
-
indeed! Why vote for Paladino. Then again, why vote for Cuomo? Besides being the AG of NYS, what has he done for us? It seems to me he let the Dem machine go way out of control, especially in NYC, with these states sponsored charities, which turned out to be nothing more than piggy banks for said political sponsor. I don't think he even moved on them until the Daily News exposed the whole thing. He certainly hasn't done anything about Atlantic Yards in terms of its legality and loop-holes. I really don't see any difference between Cuomo and Paladino, except for Paladino's being vocal. Kind of suck that Spitzer ha to leave.
-
i envy the those in a position of privilege such that who gets elected to these offices doesn't matter. for gay people and women, there is a big difference between these candidates.
-
Position of privilege being? As far as the gay and lesbian community goes, I predict that no matter which of the two get in nothing will change. Just because one candidate is open about his bigotry and the other one manages to keep his quiet, it doesn't mean Cuomo will be successful in championing any laws and rights (which btw, I feel are way overdue), if he decides to pursue them at all.
-
ah, but it feels good to vote against.
....indeed, I so rarely get to vote FOR anyone. -
idlewild, i have no idea what positions of privilege you may occupy. certainly i occupy a few (race comes to mind), so i don't mean to suggest that doing so makes a person "bad," only that doing so does allow a person to be more sanguine in some matters.
i do think it matters what an executive believes should be legal, even though obviously the legislature has a lot of power in our system. for instance: thanks to paterson, the state of new york recognizes my marriage, since it was legal in the jurisdiction where it was performed. that was an executive order, not an act of the legislature. had someone else been governor, it wouldn't have happened, and it matters a great deal to me.
i am not entirely sure of the law, but my guess is that a new executive order could rescind that one. i am reasonably sure cuomo, whether or not he champions marriage equality, won't do that, since it would piss off a lot of people who might vote for him. i think it is likely that paladino would (assuming someone explains the law to him -- he seems to believe NY currently has civil unions), since doing so would please people likely to vote for him. -
Well, if I knew what sanguine meant I'd respond, however, going back to your executive argument and maybe off topic: to me, it doesn't matter what an executive/candidate believes, since, IMO, gay or hetero marriage should not be legislated. It is not a state option but a human right, which the Supreme Court MUST make a ruling. Except for Rev. Al and a few "mavericks" such as Ron Paul and Ed Koch, I haven't seen any candidates support it. Not Obama, either of the Clintons, certainly not Bush2. I guess what I'm trying to say is, it doesn't matter how a politician feels about the issue/s since it's a Constitutional issue and not a popularity issue.
-
well, in this case, cuomo supports it and paladino doesn't.
you're right that no presidential candidate with any chance of winning has supported it, but that's not the same as "no candidate for any office."
your principles expressed above are very fine but are also pretty much exactly what i meant about not having to be pragmatic about an issue that doesn't concern you directly. -
Sure it concerns me. If politicians can make marriage a legal leisure activity out of it instead of a decent human right, well, you see what's going on with the religious and anti-immigration fervor. Pretty soon, if all goes accordingly, The 14th Amendment and the Right to Worship, whom thou chooses will all be underground. If not so already. It's all connected.
-
but it doesn't concern you enough that you consider a difference on that topic significant enough to be a difference between two candidates, i surmise because you have the luxury of knowing your principle is right and your life won't change much if the law does or doesn't change.
that's what i mean by a position of privilege. being in one doesn't mean you're awful or something, but you are in one. heck, i'm in plenty myself. for instance, i have my views and principles about how we should deal with immigration laws, but since i'm not directly affected by them -- except in large-scale ways that are hard to predict -- i can afford to be less pragmatic on the subject.
back to paladino: he believes abortion should be illegal even in cases of rape. anyone know where he falls on early pre-eclampsia? i'm guessing it's not good news for folks with uteri and those who love them. -
In other words: Since I'm not gay and not put in the position of having my rights as a human being denied because I'm gay, I make a good sympathizer and/or advocate, but I ain't in the Life. True dat and I will give you that.

Cuomo Caught Lying About Voting For Bloomberg?
Poll Shocker: Paladino Closes Within 6 Points Of Democratic Foe
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) — There has been a dramatic development in the race for New York governor.
A new poll has Republican Carl Paladino within striking distance of Democrat Andrew Cuomo as voters say they want to elect someone who will stop the circus in Albany.

New (Different) Poll: Cuomo Leads Paladino By 33 Points
A hot-off-the-presses new Siena poll shows Andrew Cuomo leading Carl Paladino in the upcoming gubernatorial race by a whopping 33 points. But wait a minute—yesterday's Quinnipiac poll told us that Paladino was only 6 points behind.
According to today's poll, Cuomo leads Paladino by a 57 to 24 percent margin, with Rick Lazio trailing behind at 8 percent. Quinnipiac's survey only took into account likely voters, as opposed to Siena who polled all registered voters. -
I'm writing in Spitzer.
-
But Spitzer cheated on his wife with a hooker. If you're a Democrat that makes you unfit for office. If you're a Republican it doesn't matter.
-
I do love the notion that a politician or preacher can sin, ask God for forgiveness, and then actually come out ahead by proclaiming their faith in God's ability to forgive them to voters. (sarcasm)
-
Suppose the hooker's a Republican? Does she get ostracized because she accepted money to fuck a Dem, or does she get a Palin Tea Party endorsement for....fucking a Democrat and taking his money?

These are good questions -

I used to love watching Jimmy Swaggart on Channel 9, Sunday nights, all weeded up, before he was busted by the NOLA Vice Squad. His asking forgiveness afterwards is a video keeper. -
I've thought about becoming born again to be able to live my life in this way.
-
Just like you don't have to be Jewish to enjoy Levy's Rye Bread, Whynot, you don't have to be born again to enjoy a wonderful and sinful life, without any feeling of redemption.
-
Sweet!
....but, can I be a non-proselytizing one?
I find them less annoying, and I don't have a car to put a fish on. -
Buy two mackerels, put 'em between your spokes and call me in the morning.

The Cuomo-Paladino N.Y. Gubernatorial Race Is 2010’s Nastiest
September 25, 2010
It’s too soon to tell for sure but all indications are that the New York gubernatorial race will end up being the nation’s nastiest. That’s because, despite all expectations, the November election turned out to be between two heavyweights who are each committed to doing whatever it takes to win.
...
Bam! Zoom! Nastiest race in the nation."
