Utica bro? Cmon man.
-
Oh wow...that is so sad.
Interetingly I saw the police and commotion and when I got home I bet my husband $10 that it would.t be posted about. -
xlizellx's husband took a sucker's bet.

Theres a War goin on no ones safe from
Mobb Deep -
I am out at utica everyday and rarely is that end of crown heights discussed here. I asumed WRONGLY that it wouldn't be posted about. I am glad it was
-
It is true, KWAC is one of the few regular posters that spends any time out there.
KWAC can we get your take on this war?
....cool gang names, the drug trade, etc.
[condolences to the family of the deceased] -
And it had already been posted about the day before, so now we get two topics on murder.
-
This one?
http://www.brooklynian.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=59366
Nope, different murder.
.....but this one does seem to be also about this murder:
http://www.brooklynian.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=59404
KWAC is right: The rappers from the 90's are to be avoided. The 90s sucked. -
Yeah I was leaving work around 730 and the road was blocked off at union and utica (I was going north). Eveything I am reading said it was crazy with lots of bullets flying. Seems to be the way out here - every gun related incident I've been involved in out in south-east crown heights or east flatbush never seems super targeted but rather bullets going all over.
-
Are you suggesting classes at the gun range are part of the answer?
(kidding).
....clearly no one knows the answer.
<<<< waits to be called inhuman as a result of kidding about some guy being murdered, and bullets flying everywhere. If anyone has a solution to this mayhem and senseless loss of life, please step forward. -
Utica ave is defenitely considered Crown Heights, thats why I posted it here. Should we only discuss Indian restaurants and composting? Now that wouldn't be fun!
-
Dude, I'm totally with you. I'm far more in the mood for an update on the CH underworld than the new Indian place (Sapid is yummy) and composting (although you gotta admit the tube video is pretty cool).
So, let's talk:
....the names of the various crews.
....newest brand name of crack or heroin.
C'mon man, I shouldn't have to get addicted just to learn the latest info, it just isn't fair..... you should not get to have the underworld all to yourself, while I post pictures of the new mural. -
Things I can talk about about that end of Crown Heights:
I hate the dollar vans at the intersection of Utica and Eastern. They park between the main Parkway and the service sides and honk their annoying clown-sounding horns all day.
I hate that when I get off of the bus, the only food options are McDonalds, Subway, and Popeyes (which doesn't take credit card!) -- the good roti places and whatnot are all on my bus route but not at the train station.
I like this donut place on Utica btwn. Union and Eastern -- but their coffee is flat out gross. But a bagel in that neck of the woods is hard to come by. The bagels are decent enough and they have a better variety of sodas than most places in the area. It's quite rare to find a diet soda in the area. For a while Popeyes didn't even have it as a fountain soda choice. .....The bodega on E. 53rd and Clarkson has 50cent bagels with cream cheese -- but they are so squishy and thin. I can eat one in 4 bites. And no diet sodas at all. But for a buck you can have a bagel hot with cream cheese and a cup of coffee. It is what it is.
Also we can discuss my hatred of how crowded the B46 is at ALL times. The lines near the 3/4 train are always long no matter the time of day. -
da! You are discussing the legitimate world. .....no disrespect, but I want the underworld!
I know that a very small part of CH is the underworld, but I miss it....
(I long for the days of running the harm reduction group at the mens shelter in the 90s. It wasn't in CH, but those were good times.)
KWAC should not get to keep the stories to himself.
KWAC wants to be morbid and morose. ....but he is absent.
sadness. -

In the morning there is always a long line for baked goods ... so I tend to not get there as I rush to work.
I've been a few times in the afternoons but always leave with slices of cake and cupcakes and other things I shouldn't be eating. My problem is that when I get off of the bus to get on the train to head home, I'm starving. I used to have the 10:30am lunch period! So I would eat anything on that 1/2 block walk from bus to train ... but there were no good actual MEAL places. I do love a good red-velvet cupcake though....
Also, for the first like 2 years I thought that it was a shrimp on their sign and not a curve of red hearts .... it makes more sense to me now.
Sorry to disappoint Whynot... -
Also, I was looking up info on a different topic for something else and found out that the subway signs are made in Crown Heights near Utica.
http://www.vosizneias.com/55248/2010/05/10/crown-heights-ny-editing-new-subway-signs-costing-800k/
Not sure where off of Utica, though. -

whynot, This is incredibly inappropriate. If you need your "fix," then go watch the Godfather. This thread is about a dead teenager, who was unlucky enough to be born in the wrong place. There is no entertainment in that. There is only sadness and pain.
And, you are insinuating that this young man was involved in the Crown Heights underworld when you have no idea. He could have been shot for a multiplicity of reasons. Life is cheap in Crown Heights. At least, find out the facts before you start slandering the name of a dead man on a public board. -
krow-
I expressed my condolences above. Because very few people who post on this board tend to murder people, such threads usually die a quick death. We are just trying to keep the thread alive. [hitting "new topic" is hard work!]
Unfortunately, KWAC isn't around to talk real underworld with me. ...not the silly Hollywood "Godfather" version. So, I guess I'll talk cupcakes and subway signs. .....that conversation seems to have some support.
(Sorry we missed each other KWAC. Catch you on the next shooting or murder thread!).
xlizellx-
I forgive you.
BTW, if you haven't already gone, the Annual Metro North Open House is excellent. It happens every year up in Croton. They open up their train rework facility to the public. I've been twice, and there is lots of huge machines and grease ....I think there is a sign shop as well!
They don't seem to have put the dates on their website yet, but it is usually held on a weekend in late October so the open air train tour can take advantage of the fall leaves. 'tis lovely AND greasy. -
the person who got murdered was a member of the bloods
-
dizel.prod-
Good to know.
Can you fill my need for a primer on the CH underworld?
Are we still looking at the antics of Nine Trey Gangsters and Bugout Boyz?
http://www.nydailynews.com/news/ny_crime/2010/08/26/2010-08-26_10_bklyn_bloods_in_murder_drug_racketeer_bust.html
Or, do we have other players steppin' up to fill the void?
Getting my news from the paper sucks.
Prices, conflicts, areas, etc. thanks -
not nine trey he was five nine brim he was also the leader of a teenage crew called s.o.d (shooters on deck) and it was over old beef that he had, this wasnt the first time he got shot, his base was on prospect n utica
-
got it. Yea, some folks don't leave the street after even getting shot.
...and what's the going rate these days for product on Utica?
Assume I'm buying some weight ....not end user crap. -

More to the point, whynot, very few people on this board have been personally affected by a violent murder. This board represents a small, narrow section of the Crown Heights community. However, watching family members and/or friends die of gun violence is the norm for many in this neighborhood. Your voyeuristic attitude towards this tragedy is offensive to all of them.
I expressed my condolences above. Because very few people who post on this board tend to murder people, such threads usually die a quick death. We are just trying to keep the thread alive. [hitting "new topic" is hard work!]
If your goal is to keep threads alive, then I suggest that you either 1) only post about what people here can effectively address (not my preference, by the way), or 2) recruit a more diverse section of our community to this board. -
Murder is incredibly bad for individuals and their families.
However, crime threads are a staple of the news for a reason: People love to jabber about crime. http://www.brooklynian.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=46168&postdays=0&postorder=asc&vote=viewresult
In case you haven't noticed, there's lots of shows and movies on cops too.
So far we aren't talking about the character of the guy who got murdered at all. (that would be be bad, especially if we didn't know him).
Can't one learn about the local bloods crew without being judged? ....As you point out, a lot of Bloods are likely good people. Nobody deserves to get murdered.
....the board is open to everyone, but I don't think it actively recruits or claims to represent any neighborhood. Some people might even have their google alerts set to Five Nine .....gotta love new members!
Still need to get an update on weight level pricing.
....KWAC, where are you? Let's not talk about gunshots, but also not talk about kittens and rainbows.....
xlizellx- I used to take the B46 alot. Good times. You don't like the dollar vans? -
whynot,
When you tell me that people watch tv shows about cops and criminals as a rebuttal to my comments about your insensitivity, your words just underline how unreal all this is to you. To many other people who live amongst us, this is a very real situation, and one of great sadness. Not the equivalent of a Law and Order episode that you can shut off when it's over.
I did not point out that "Bloods are likely good people." Nor would I, since I don't think there are "good" people and "bad" people. I think there are only good actions and bad actions. I think that a lot of kids in this neighborhood are born into really messed up situations which don't inoculate them very well against the pressure to do bad things. I think that sucks.
I fully encourage you to learn about what goes in your neighborhood. By all means, post a new topic that says "I would like to learn about the Bloods gang in Crown Heights. What can people tell me?" But this particular thread is not the right place for your edification. It's the right place to mourn the loss of yet another young man who was born into the wrong place at the wrong time. -
Krow - Thankyou for you input and good luck on making the internet a place in which you can tell people what is appropriate and where. ...and I do love your assumptions that violent crime is somehow unreal to me. (you consistently make me smile).
We now return to post of the OP:

My employer has transitcheck too. It's a pretty good deal.
....even if you don't have Transitcheck, those Dollar Vans around Utica aren't much cheaper than the bus. ....but they are much faster. ....and, if you are into this sorta thing, the drivers do honk their horns more than a bus.
....I think I find it difficult to dislike things that use ropes to shut their doors.
For example, I find I have a much easier time disliking crime, or senseless violence. -
That was a quote from a Mobb Deep song, I dont see you as an avid rap listener whynot. So getting back to the topic and Im still unsure why I gotta "Utica bro? Cmon man". So many are caught up on invisible lines that define neighborhoods, Crime can and will happen anywhere. I remember when the old guy shot and killed the handyman on Vanderbilt and Dean st in the bar. Nobody thought that kind of stuff could happen there. Or when Amy Watkins was stabbed to death on Park plc between underhill and vanderbilt.
Howdy, Stranger!
