Robbery on Bergen St. just east of Classon
My bike got stolen out of the basement of my building this past weekend, on Bergen St, just east of Classon Ave.
It was a gold (yeah, bad choice, I know) Trek 7.2 FX with black handlebars, a silver rear rack, and silver toe clips.
Two other bikes were stolen from our hallway, a week or so earlier, but I didn't find out about that until this past Friday. My bike was left alone, even though it was in front of the other two; probably because the other two weren't locked. I just had my rear wheel locked to the frame.
I my bike in the basement on Friday, just to be safe. But they came back for my bike sometime this past weekend, entered the building illegally, and stole my bike (with the wheel still locked to the frame).
I asked at the bodega on the corner if there might be anything on the security cameras, and they were very unhelpful, to say the least.
The police were reluctant to even take the down the report, and they only called it petit larceny, ignoring the whole breaking into the building part...
This is only about a month after my friend's car got broken into in broad daylight on the corner of Bergen & Classon and some of my things were stolen then also.
Something is going on here and I don't know which neighbors I can trust anymore...

Sorry to hear about your bike. Unless you keep it in your apartment, it's a good idea to lock your bike to something else, not just itself (but of course you know that now). You never know who might pass through your building (deliverymen, visitors, other tenants), without needing to break in. Perhaps you'll have luck finding it on Craigslist, and check in with local bike shops, which may be on the lookout if someone asks about selling or repainting it...

Robbery is when you use or threaten force when removing property from a person. This would be considered Petit Larceny based on the value of the bike and that many people have access to the basement and is also a common area within the building.

sue the landlord for the value of your bike.....he failed to keep adequate safety measures if someone was able to break in twice stealing all the bicycles just remember..this isnt kansas... if you dont have it bolted down and securely locked to an unmovable object it will be stolen its one of the unwritten laws of brooklyn
also you must be kidding if you expect the cops to do anything remotely like work ( ie taking a report) theyre too busy filling the city's coffers with ticket revenue against all the motorists -
We just had a bike jacked on Park Place, between Classon and Franklin. Big ol' cruiser bike with a basket that we used to transport our pooch. Stupidly, we came back late one night and left it locked outside overnight, inside our gate. Should've known better. Gone in the a.m. If you see some jerkwad dragging a cruiser around with a locked back wheel, that's ours.
But seriously, I never knew there was such demand for an sub-$200, 60-pound bike covered in dog hair.
Howdy, Stranger!
