Do we still have power in PS?
I'm in my office and just got this from Sen Liz Krueger's office...
A majority of feeders which provide electricity from 14th Street up to 40th Street and from 5th Avenue to the East River, have gone out. These include two serving the Madison Square Garden network and three serving the Kips Bay network. Affected areas are in danger of losing power altogether.
Crews are working right now to prevent this from happening.
The City is asking that all non-essential electrical appliances be turned off in order to conserve energy until Con Ed has resolved the problem.

I still have power in WT.
My friend called me from Greenwich, CT before. They had a major outage in Stamford and then while we were on the phone his power died and a few minutes later our call was cut off. Sucks for him - he's on the 18th floor (could be worse) -
I heard something about that area on the news before. They were going building to building saying that if they didn't conserve immediately, they were in danger of losing it all together.

if youre work place loses power, always think of it a s a free paid vaction!

check this out - it's not a joke - this e-mail came to me from a friend just a minute ago . . .
"My friend's dad works for ConEd - he just called and told her not to
ride the subways any more today, as we will likely have a blackout.
ConEd is sending all non-essential employees home right now so they can
shut down power to their building. From yesterday's heat, Manhattan has
4 feeders out, putting a big strain on the system. He said in his 30
years working there, he's never seen ConEd act like this, especially at
10:30 in the morning. He said not to panic, but not to take a chance if
it can be helped - avoid riding the subway if at all possible."
Great - stuck in Manhattan again! -
NY1 just said that 7 feeder cables went down on the E. Side in Manhattan but that 5 of them have been repaired already.
Still, I'm glad I turned down plans to go into Manhattan for dinner tonight.
I have a friend who got stuck in the subway on both 9/11 AND during the blackout. -
that's good news - never thought I'd be prayin' for Con-Ed!

maybe it's the Con Ed version of the Divorce Billboard
-
Okay, I'll bite...
What's the divorce billboard? -
oh Lord, that is SOOoooOoOoOoOooooo photoshop!

Trixie - I don't think it's photoshopped. I think it's an advert for something, but not sure what. It's been talked about on numerous websites (Gawker, etc.). I think the sign itself (or multiple ones) are up, just not sure what they're getting at. I'd guess it's from a bank

didnt someone have a link somewhere to say its a ad compaign?

TV show if I recall correctly - the NY Times ran a piece on it recently. They appeared in cities across the country around the same time. -
