Police Activity on Sterling between Franklin and Bedford — Brooklynian

Police Activity on Sterling between Franklin and Bedford

A police car has been parked on Sterling between Franklin and Bedford since very early this morning and now there is also a "crime scene unit" van in front of 683 Sterling. Anybody have any idea what is going on?

  • Activity is actually focused on 679 Sterling; currently being renovated; formerly occupied by squatters. Cops are conducting a very detailed investigation; photos, fingerprints, etc. that has taken 4-5 hours. I saw the lone resident of the building, an elderly woman, who thankfully, looks ok.
  • Any idea what the crime was?
  • nope. The following site is often helpful, but nothing is on it yet:

  • We live across the street, but have no idea what happened. The police had a huge truck with photography equipment that they hauled in to the top floor, we could see flashes from our apt. Then several detectives canvassed the neighbors and were asking if we heard or saw anything suspicious between 10pm and midnight.
  • I asked one of the cops what happened and all he would say was that a woman was "assaulted" in the building. I don't know whether it was the one woman who lives in the building or someone else. In any event, it is scary and it seems that, whatever it was, it was something very serious, given the amount of attention it got.
  • Yeah, it sucks to be across the street from it. That building has been plagued with criminal activity since we moved here a few years ago.
  • I spoke to Letitia James' office today who was briefed by the police about the incident at 679 Sterling that occurred on Sunday night. The crime was an attempted rape of a woman in the building. The woman was unable to give a description of the man because she was jumped from behind and didn't see him.
  • Is 679 Sterling Place the building under construction? Are there people living in it while construction continues?
