Subject: Homicide scene at Branded Saloon
Branded Saloon, located at the intersection of Vanderbilt Avenue and Bergen Street, is this morning the scene of a homicide after an early-morning stabbing.
Details are fuzzy, but it seems that there was some form of altercation between a dog-walker and a bar patron and bartender that left one person dead and the other hospitalized in serious condition. -

Did the person actually die? Which one? Were you there? Otherwise it is not a homicide. -
I await Karl's update. He posted this at 3:20 AM, making me believe he may have some firsthand knowledge

Gah! I hate it when people die on my street! Anyone have any updates here...Karl is clearly sleeping in after a late night out...

News12 doesn't let you access their site without entering your Cablevision account info - which I don't have at work. So, that link didn't help me much.
Any new details in their story? -
Mama, those of us who don't have cablevision can't get in to the site thru your link. You'll need to cut and paste to be helpful. k thx
-
But I don't have cablevision. I just followed CCCC's link to the brooklyn section and the article is there..
1 dead, 1 injured in double stabbing
(09/30/10) BROOKLYN - Police say one person was found dead and one injured after a double stabbing.
Police say the incident occured near 603 Vandebilt Avenue. Both victims were taken to Kings County Hospital.
Police say they have one suspect in custody. -
"Police say they have one suspect in custody" ....this is good news.
I still want Karl to wake up and tell us whether his account is due to looking out the window or running like hell from the bar. -
We are deeply saddened and hurt by the loss of our dear friend and co-worker Chai Eun J Hillmann who was killed last night in an act of needless and sensless violence. The attacker also stabbed another co-worker and dear friend Daniel who is in stable condition. We intend to come together as friends and family and as a community to show our outrage for violent crime in our neighborhoods. We ask that you keep Chai and Daniel's family and friends in your thoughts and prayers.
We intend to have a candle light vigil in honor of Chai and to show our solidarity against violence on Saturday night at 8pm.

Hi Wagon Wheels - very sorry to hear about this as I'm sure it's a huge blow to your group of friends and working community.

yes, sorry for your loss. -
I met Chai recently at Branded- he was a relatively new addition to the staff, if I'm not mistaken. He was a sweetheart of a guy, he was great at his job and I'm just floored right now....
He has as min pin- sweetest doggy- I hope someone in his family will take him.
-
Wagon, thanks for the post. Please let us know about any other developments.
All condolences to Chai's family. -
Damn, this sucks. I can't believe it happened there. Chai was the nicest guy. If I was walking by Branded and saw him working, I always stopped in at least to say hi. I'm definitely going to miss him. I'm glad Daniel is ok so far, and wish him a speedy recovery.
If the suspect in custody is the one who did this, I hope he gets put away for a long time. -
I have a really hard time thinking that this happened in my neighborhood. That's unbelievable. I'm awaiting (perhaps) eyewitness details from Karl. Maybe he could write in prose and skip the haiku for such a serious topic.

WTF describing Gerard's reaction as "miffed." NYDN are dicks. -

According to the Daily News coverage, the attacker was someone from the neighborhood who was known to the people at the bar.

In the article the owner says they got the whole thing on video tape...
I have to say, I understand the arguments people have about not wanting cameras up all over NY, but this is one of those times when you feel pretty good about it. I hope it's admissible in court. -
The Post's version

They refer to the suspect Daniel Pagan’s as a "convicted murderer", but do not explain further. -
Nice, real nice...
nypost wrote: Pagan, who served nine years in prison for shooting a man to death in 1991 and wounding another, is being questioned in the 77th Precinct, police said.

They are updating the Post article as we each read it.
-
This is so awful. Sorry for your loss wagon wheels, heartfelt condolences to Chai's family and a quick recovery for Daniel. I live half a block from the saloon and am sickened by this news.
-
a while back, i recall reading on these message boards, i think, that there was a neighborhood dog walker who was extremely aggressive. was this pagan guy the same guy?
-
The owners of Branded have asked that I again mention to you all that a vigil will be held at the Saloon this Saturday night in memory of Chai and in outrage at violence in our neighborhood.
Bar will be closed to the public tonight for friends and family gathering. -

I don't think so. He's a regular at many of the Vandy bars and he's a cook. I've never heard him talk about dog-walking. -
This writer summarizes the two articles into one nicely, but there isn't any new content
