Violent female muggers in Park Slope targeting women
Tuesday night just after 11 pm I got mugged in Park Slope, on Park Place between 6th and 7th by two young African American women (this is a dark block with lots of big trees). I was robbed and bashed on the head by something that felt like a bottle (but may have been something else), and ended up in the hospital with stitches. The cops who came told me this is now a pattern - they are targeting women walking alone on dark streets and asking for directions, either to downtown or in my case, to Court Street. I screamed and they ran away, and grabbed my purse in the process. Please be careful, because they are not afraid to assault you. Previously, they tried to mug another woman on St. Johns, also in Park Slope, same m.o.

Sorry to hear about that. sounds horrific. I hope the cops catch this pair and I hope you feel better.
Thanks for alerting us to this. -
i hope a southerner catches them.... save the rest of us from them ever mugging anyone again
-
What kind of purse?

As a southerner, I have to ask, what on earth do you mean by that? -
That's terrible to hear, I'm so sorry. I really don't have anything to add, but felt compelled to write something sympathetic seeing how some people are inexplicably compelled to write either insensitive or non sequitor remarks.
It's bad enough you got mugged, you don't need people to make light of your injuries and misfortune. You're just trying to be helpful by warning people to be careful. But after seeing this, I know I wouldn't be inclined to be as considerate since all it seemingly does is create a forum for people to showcase their lousy upbringing. -
Piano I see you are Newbie. Yeah.. posters can sometimes be insensitive, rude or whatever. But.. If you look at the balance to Bodyshop's post I see sensitivity, thank you for the warning and good feelings as well.
Bodyshop.. hope you are feeling better tonight and are safe always from such terrible stuff. -
Bodyshop, so sorry about that. I hope you feel better soon...And thanks for being so thoughful to alert the rest of us.
Piano, I understand how you feel, but believe me, people are usually nice and kind on this board...Just ignore those stupid comments and focus on the good ones! Unfortunately, idiots are everywhere, but most of the people here are willing to help
-
It's nice to see some nice people around. I have no doubt most people would be willing to help, but unfortunately the online dweeb minority is disproportionately vocal.
-
Oh no. So sorry to hear about your misfortune. That's terrible. Thanks for posting, though, so we know to be extra mindful of our surroundings.
-
I'm right there with you Piano. People have such horrible manners on the interweb. They seem to love to hide behind the veil of supposed anonymity. Praise Allah we have people like you to shake a pitchfork at them.
-
So sorry this happened to you.
As far as the remark about southerners - I am not a southerner but I find the remark extremely racist - first for stereotyping southerners, secondly for implying that the southerners you stereotype should do something unlawful.
Most of the people on this board feel for you - but there are thoughtless people who say anything on the web under the cloak of anonymity. -
Yep, cases in point. It's pretty much the equivalent of someone walking onto a crowded subway car and cutting a rank fart. The only thing to do is make a face, ignore them and wait for them to go away.
-
actually it was not rcist most southerners i know would lay out the mugger and fix em a hell of alot better than any court or prison would....
-
criminal rights has gotten no where. should sent to them labor camps and pay back society. instead of society taking care of them while they are in prison. by labor camps not having more kids
. -
Update: The girls who attacked me also attacked or accosted at least 3 other women. They are now IN CUSTODY as of Friday night.
-
Good to know. Are you pressing charges? Or how does that work? Some years ago a young man assaulted me and the city pressed charges against him. This was in another state.
-
if they are young most likely nothing is going to happen. they should start charging all those punks as adults and those adult should be sent to labor camp!!!
-
agree with armchair.
-
Bodyshop, thanks for posting what happened so others can be aware and thanks for the update!
This kind of stuff sucks, but good for you for passing on the info to help others stay safe. -
i totally agree with armchair warrior.... all the bleeding heart BS has got to stop prison needs to be a hell of alot tougher than it allegedly is, there has to be truth in sentencing (1 year =365 days) , tougher sentences, no parole, and repeat offeners need to be dealt with severely
-
I doubt that the "BS" to which you refer has anything to do with bleeding hearts.
Long sentences without parole are horrendously expensive for taxpayers. New prisons would have to be built... and staffed... to house all of the inmates who are now released instead of kept in prison.
Longer sentences would also require less plea bargaining, which means more trials, which are very, very expensive for taxpayers (more judges, more legal aid lawyers, more court clerks and court reporters and bailiffs....)
Prisons are a revolving door largely because we as a society aren't willing to shell out the cost of more prisons, more guards, and more trials. -

Before I'm called a bleeding heart, allow me to point out this "habilitation" solution would be tried only on those deemed to still have a chance of being a part of society.
....getting caught and punished for a crime would need to become much more a certainty. Currently, there is only a risk of same.
Note, I'm agreeing with Booklaw, but pointing out we are going to need more of EACH before we are able to make any difference. I think it will get much worse before the pendulum swings the other way again. -
If we stopped filling up prisons with non-violent drug offenders, we could focus on the real criminals. None of these issues has any chance of real progress until drug prohibition (at least for cannabis) ends.

thats why prisons should be not free stay places, if they want food they work in the labor camp, if they don't they starved or get eaten by hungry prisoners.

3rd world prisons pay for themselves. and american prisons use to too. -

here, here!
they watch tv, work out, and enjoy everyday activities (including obtaining contraband). put them to work! -
all drug users/sellers and prostitution shouldn't be against the law. these are choices in life like over eating. religious morals shouldn't be tied into law.
who cares if some guy smokes some pot or snorts some coke as long as they don't do it on the job or using a vehicle. they should apply drinking/smoking laws to all the soft and hard drugs.
prostitution should be treated as any job. America needs more prostitution than lawyers and hell we need tort reform. -
Subject: 78th precinct email
Just got this email from the 78th pct. don't know if related.
>There were two robberies that were committed by the same two female perpetrators on St. John’s Place and Park place. Fortunately, these criminals were apprehended and charged with these crimes as well as one that occurred in the 77 precinct.
Howdy, Stranger!
