Abandoned Building on Franklin between Bergen and Dean

Does anyone know anything about the abandoned building on Franklin between Bergen and Dean? Looks like it was possibly a factory of some sort at one point. It's also rumored parties are occasionally held in there. Anyway, I don't mind it at all... its very beautiful in its dilapidated way. I even walked by some guy painting it from across the street a few months ago.

    Whoever owns it now is letting the buildings on Franklin fall apart. The roof is caved in, first from a fire then from all the snow and rain. There are also feral cats living there, we rescued 2 kittens this summer.

    i looked at office space in the building next door (which was impeccable), but that one... afaik it's still available for development, more as a site than a rehab project. huge site that could be something tremendous...

    I've been inside the place. It's fabulous and cavernous. The basement is is huge. There were once dozens of giant barrels in the basement for storing beer. Definitely worth exploring the possibility of a tour for the community. Perhaps Crown Hill Assoc. could look into this.

    An official tour would probably be too hazardous with the roof caving in and whatnot, no? I've explored a few other abandoned spots in brooklyn and have been debating the easiest way to enter this building complex. Was thinking it might be easiest right on franklin to climb up where there is a gated window... thoughts?

    Let's not tear it down. It's beautiful and historical and becoming a hotspot for public art. I'm sure it is inevitable but it will be a sad day when 10story glass condos stand in its place.

    It's not quite as secure as it looks, there's definitely a way in if you don't mind getting a bit dirty.

    hah we talking sewer crawling here? seriously though, any route of entry either of you might have used would be helpful. preferably something slightly more discrete than clamoring up the side directly on Franklin. Dirt is no issue.. i am well accustom to grime.

    this guy has photographed abandoned buildings/places all throughout brooklyn/NYC.. hasn't made it in our former brewery however

    I know this is an old thread but I've been biking past that building for a while now and really want to take a look inside...I've seen alot of new graffiti on it lately which might indicate much more on the inside? I wonder if its got alot of crime in it....It's be interesting to clean up some the area and do a series of secret dinners paired with local brew on the roof top..in honor of its beauty

    They've been cleaning it out over the past year but there's not much left inside, the guys in the neighborhood have already cleaned out all the scrap metal. Not much goes on inside other than a few feral cats passing through. I just hope they're not going to make it into more stupid luxury condos.

    I've heard it is not landmarked. If I wasn't lazy, I could see if plans have already been filed with DOB.

    Today, June 13, 2013, one of the big doors to this place was open and it looks like workers had piled some of the interior loose debris.
