Thanks so much for sharing this. I'm never in that part of the nabe, so I had NO idea this place existed. I'm going to try it soon.

Reading comprehension fail.

I was there a couple of months ago, and I had a nice time. The atmosphere is romantic, as the article said. The surprising thing for me is that it's located in an unexpected place. The manager was very nice; he showed us the back of the restaurant which they had opened since the World Cup. He also mentioned that the place next door is going to be a school dorm, so I'm pretty sure that's going to bring more business to the place, and the area. Hold on tight, we' re going to see changes there.

It's not going to be the first, second or third time that I see a good restaurant changing an area completely for the best. The rational is simple, a restaurant is full all the time—Basil opens at 8am and closes 16 hours later at 2am—then another entrepreneur wants to take advantage of that and opens a new restaurant next to it, and so on. In the previous times that I've seen this happening, the location, as in Basil's case, wasn't chosen randomly. Usually, there are projects going on around it. For that area, it's the building next to it, which is going to be a brand new Jewish dorm which will host a large amount of students looking for a good place to drink and eat.

Basil, Oregano and Olive Oil go great together!

I've talked with some folks off line, and there seems to be some interest in going to this place to see what it's like.

Everyone would be welcome.

So far I've jabbered with LaurelB of Nostrand Park, HisCrownHeights, Clayfilms (via HCH) and Mrs. Whynot. We are already at 5.

A group of -say- 8 people would be ideal. More would certainly be welcome.

Here are my first three thoughts:

1. We obviously should not attempt to go on a Saturday, when it will be closed. :? ....I dunno, maybe Wednesday 10/20/10?

2. While they serve pizza, it is Kosher ....hence it will be a little more expensive than folks are used to, and without pork or shrimp.

....Pizza can be yummy with other toppings.

3. Unlike some Brooklynian get togethers, this event won't be at a bar ....those folks who seek an alcohol focused event may be disappointed.
