7th ave wine bar — Brooklynian

7th ave wine bar

burns
edited November -1 in Park Slope
the new place on 7th ave and garfield is a great addition to the neighborhood - havent had many of the tappas yet, but its a good place to go for a few drinks in an area that doesnt really have anywhere to do that
both times i was there there were plenty of people , but not too full

have people been?
thoughts?

  • ITA w/Flexichick...although they have been reworking their wine list. It's not nearly as attrocious as it was when they first posted it.
  • My wife and I went there. It was great. Has a nice feeling and the tapas were really big making they a very good deal. Staff was friendly too. Glad the place opened.
  • i think from the outside, it looks quite inviting.

that whole corner looks really fresh now with that, the new chicken place, moim, etc.

    nice to have it there.
  • Although I agree it is hard to judge a place till you try it, after looking at the menu today I really don't see how that concept will succeed. Tapas, sushi and wine? Seems like a forced idea to me. I'd love a true tapas bar in Park Slope one of these days though. I wish them luck though and maybe they will get rid of the sushi and focus on one concept in due time.
  • the sushi selection there, while limited, is great.
  • Who the hell drinks wine with sushi? I can see sake maybe..

Maybe its an idea whose time has come...Delicately flavored finger food paired with the right sorts of wine? I can see it maybe, sort-of working in the right combination...though it would need to be a dry wine indeed to pair up with pickled ginger...
  • I wish they would just a pick a cuisine (preferably tapas, since we are lacking in that area) and go with it instead of trying to be too many different things
  • Not saying wine and sushi can't work, as they definitely can, just don't think wine, sushi and tapas is an appropriate combination. In this case less should be more, but instead the restaurant tacks on extra items or sections of a menu to appeal to a broader audience, without focusing on a single concept.
  • well they are probably nervous about the economy and want to appeal to a broad consumer base.

i agree that wine and tapas on its own would be the best option, but you can't blame them for being nervous in this environment...especially with such a large space.

let's go try the place before we say it sucks, shall we?

perhaps they just need a little feedback on perhaps nixing the sushi concept.
  • Definitely not saying the place sucks, just less inclined to go to a place that doesn't seem to have a focus on what they want to specialize in and offer their customers. Looking at the menu for a place is the first way to see if you want to dine there and if it looks disjointed then that is not necessarily a good first impression. But I hear your point, I just likely won't be the first one to check it out and report back!

    Happy holidays by the way!
  • ^ditto. With so many other places in the Slope that I either like or have on my list to try, a place with what I perceive to be a lack of direction isn't high up on my list. Doesn't mean it sucks or that I am boycotting them.....just not enticed to run out and try it. I might find myself there one day with friends, or out of boredom or if I hear great reviews, but otherwise there are a ton of other places I will likely try first.
  • I've visited this place on several occasions with my girlfriend and with friends and we really like it. The food, the wine and the service are always first class. The head sommelier really knows a lot about wine and he's eager to share his knowledge and he makes a great host.
  • Try the chocolate port.
