Alternatively, or better yet, in addition, see "Freakonomics", now playing at the Angelika theater. Eugene Jarecki's segment (on which I assisted) of that film posits an unusual explanation for the reduction in crime.

can I get a summary?
....as long as he's not one of those people who states "all the criminals moved to Newark", I'll probably like it.
I tend to get along with the people who state the cycle of violence has been broken. ....the sociologists vs psychologists. -
The legalization of abortion resulted in fewer unwanted babies, and thus, 20-30 years later, fewer criminals.
But you should see the film... it's very entertaining.
And no, I do not profit from ticket sales or any other exploitation of the film. -
abortion could explain some of the missing crime, so can the poor moving out of nyc. and the affluent moving in to nyc and more immigrants.
Howdy, Stranger!
