see, you try to be nice to a person, and that person pretends to be nice back and then hits you with this whammy.

This is the whole what-gives-Park-Slopers-a-bad-name thing in a nutshell, right? Not telling people that they're terrible--telling them how sad it makes you that they're so terrible.

    Oh, no, you are terrible.

It does make me sad though, the terribleness. Not your personal terribleness per se, just the common racist, classist, human less, pack of wolves, gang mentality, intolerant and slutty tone of your message board. Not that you should give a poop about my sadness, it’s just ‘end times’ that’s all; unfortunately slopers will be ones of the last to go in the flood given the elevation and all.

I think you all hate Smartmom because you are her and she is you. But I am more saddened by you.

  • I am, a terrible, terrible rotten being. I am, I truly am.
en route to hell in fact..... be a doll, could you hold the door open for me, don't want to spill my martini.

Wow! I didn't know they made an emoticon for smugness!

    OH. MY. GOD.

    Smartmom is MsScribe?!
  • OT, but I've considered trying to show people on other boards the MsScribe story just to illustrate HOW MUCH goddamn trouble one person can cause, but I figure none of them will believe me...

Ok I feel dumb - who is MsScribe?

right? one person couldn't create 85% of the wank in an internet group, nor necessitate extra security at certain events because she'd been "threatened" with violence by racists. nope. not possible.

I mean, there weren't weeks on the PH board where the original AG didn't derail every single conversational thread, right?

Er, I guess I could try to let alafairnadia field this one, but she was a well-known figure in an online fandom who created dozens of sockpuppets--both characters who loved her beyond all measure and characters who attacked her--to try to manipulate everyone around her into either loving her or feeling sorry for her (and then loving her). She created sockpuppets that posted all sort of vile racist stuff about... herself, and sockpuppets that made her enemies look bad and start attacking each other.

A few years later, some people put their suspicions together, started checking IPs, and figured out that it was... all one person doing it. One of these people posted a 90,000 word (!) expose about six weeks ago. It's like an internet detective novel.

Actually Carnivore would enjoy it, if he had time to read it...

she fear-mongered to such an extent, people actually hired extra security for fandom events. like, can you imagine if we were all so freaked out by anon-g that we started hiring security for happy hour? this woman was nuts.

she's also apparently in other trouble - her husband (I think) is divorcing her as a result of all this insanity.

I heard he'd run off with one of the sock puppets.
  • Well, one of the sockpuppets was supposed to be her nanny. (I can think of at least one other famous nanny sockpuppet--I guess it's an easy explanation of why someone was using a computer...) So maybe he ran off with the nanny.

On one hand I guess I feel a little sorry for her about the divorce. But the stuff she did was just so nuts (the fake firing, the fake hospital stay, etc.) and it seems like she really used him, MY HUSBAND THE LAWYER, to try to cover her tracks, which was even sketchier.

How does that banning thing work again? Oh, no people of color on your board, I get it, no dissent.

I didn't insult anyone, you're the one who is insulting me and for that I'm banning your IP address. How about that.

P.S. I hope you get robbed.
  • Hmmm...I just want to make very clear again that I am not "Guest," except for a couple of posts I made in the heat of the moment when we were going back and forth the other morning. Although I understand, "Guest," why you might quote the sharp-tongued Maureen Dowd to counter the juvenile sarcasm (mixed with occasional genuine wit) on these threads, the word "slut" is not a term I would ever post on an internet board.

So Park Slope has a bad rep, eh? In whose jaded eyes?

I am very proud of this neighborhood and I feel that is it a blessing to live here. I am proud that, back in the day, you used to have to get to the recycling bin on Seventh Avenue early in the morning because it filled up so quickly. I am proud that we were chosen as one of the first neighborhoods for recycling because we were expected to help to lead the city.

I am proud that when the fundamentalists tried to insinuate themselves on to our school board that the ladies with the strollers came out, and with their kids hanging all over them, voted the religious right down and a lesbian school board member in.

I am dismayed that people abandon animals in this neighborhood because they know our community will take them in, and am proud that most of the time, the pets find good homes.

I am proud that there are so many interracial couples in this neighborhood and that they live here because they find they are among friends.

And yes I am proud of the Coop, which is a well-run, vibrant organization that is the home of a lot of fine people in this community. And I am ROFL that any of you think anybody cares where you shop for food.

Darjeeling, you'll find that one of the top benefits of creating an account here is that you don't have to make statements like this. If you had an account, everyone would know what you did and didn't post. It does require an email account, but it could be [email protected] for all we care.

I really don't think you understand how IP banning works. Um, what would you ban us from? Guess they don't explain that at Columbia.
