Parking Tix for Old License Plates?
Question:
We just transferred ownership of our fabulous old car from my husbands mom to ourselves. The transfer came with brand new NY license plates (was NJ).
What ramifications can happen if we just don't pay the $155 parking tickets that are currently due on the old plates?
She drives a different car w/ other plates.......
Don't want M-I-L to get arrested, but are the systems connected?
Sigh. Just wanna be in denial for a little while longer.

You have nothing to worry about. However the mother in law is still at risk if she has another car unless she stays out of New York. Sounds like a win win situation.

If the summons was issued in NY to that vehicle once the summons is in judgement and incurs $350 in penalties the City Marshal will impound the vehicle.

Won't the state keep track that you owe the money on those plates, even though they're not on your current car? Couldn't this become a problem when you go to renew a registration or license?

Any car registered in your name is subject to seizure by the marshal if any judgment exists for another car owned by you and above the 350 threshold as KWAC says.MIL should plead not guilty immediately if not in judgment, no matter how guilty she is. What did she do, park in a handicap zone for too long? I never stay longer then 30 minutes.

the tickets from NJ plates are against your MIL. They cannot take your car with NY tags anymore. It is enear impossible they will figure out your MILS new tag to kick back to that old car. Id tell the city to eat it

Theres a crazy thing on a car called a VIN number just in case people try to pull fast ones. Is $155 really worth the aggravation?

I paid it. Just needed a kick in the pants. Such a bummer to lose $155. It's a lot of money for us. Being so, we should park more carefully!!! No sense risking a larger penalty. Thanks for the feedback all.
