mussels, at 12th street. perfect with a glass of sauvignon blanc.
and what dill? i don't know what you're talking about re: dill. -
Yes, I've tried them. They were good. I'm not a mussels person, but all of the friends that I've taken there who eat them love them (12th St B&G, Q...pay attention
)
I'm supposed to be trying to sleep, but now I'm getting hungry again.
Oh, i also like Eden Cleaners on 10th Ave and Windsor St. Linda (owner) is very sweet and often sews buttons and stuff on for me at no charge (my domestic skills are sorely lacking) -
Oh, and there are 3 pet stores I like:
All For Paws (maybe it's All Four Paws, not sure) on PPW btw. 16th/Windsor. They have two store cats (Lou Lou and Suzie Q). The owner (Jackie) is a cranky potty mouth (maybe that's why I like her), who is really sweet and won't sell you stuff just to sell you garbage.
The 2 places on the E. side of 7th Ave in S. Slope. One is NYCPets (I think) with a sweet cat named Chelsea. They also have a woman who works there who is a pickup point for Muffins (cheap spay/neuter organization) certificates.
The other places is btw. 15/16. No idea what it's called. They're usually sitting out front (owner) with some teenage kids with him -

Deborah is the devil itself. just ask my dog. they hate each other
ah. 12th street
12th street has really good mussels. no one else is really as consistent
and it's a friendly place
brooklynpotter has a fascination with dill -

Lobster Roll, Brooklyn Fish Camp
Wine shops, none, I do all at Sherry Lehmann in Manhattan (near work). Once thought they were over priced but once moving to PS I realized they were actually CHEAPER. PS, all wine shops, seem to charge a buck or 2 more on the bottle. Do not like how SIP has their wines laid out, do not like Red, White and Bubbly. There is a shop on 7th between Union and (whatever the next street over is that isnt President) that has a great selection, well laid out, over priced but worth it for the variety. forget the name. (probably 7th ave. wine shop for all I know)
best brunch, toss up between Rose Water and Stone Park, however my partner will tell you she loves Miriam (which is no contest, however they have a greeat salmon sandwich for brunch)
Press, yea, amazing sandwiches, #3 I think is my old stand by (too drunk to go look up menu now)
Kiku, on 5th, great sushi but definitely best raw fish is Blue Ribbon, yes, its worth the bucks.
love Pepperoncino, although some of you may beg to differ.
My dog Fred, favorite neighborhood hot spot is Buttercup's Pawtisserie. Betty (and Scott, the owners) are great, make all their treats on premises. cute little shop.
to be continued..... -

i heart jackie. jackie's the best -
i keep meaning to go to miriam because the wife of the owner made all the tiles for the entire place (we used to share a studio, there were thousands of tiles!)... and i keep meaning to get over there.
tell me about the lobster at fish camp. my mom and i are thinking about going to maine in september and all i can think of is lobster rolls 3 times a day
and q, i don't know what you're talking about. i never mentioned dill till you did! -
My press sandwich is #12 - Provolone, Fontina, sun-dried tomatoes, artichoke hearts and black bean hummus. If I'm not washing it down with a beer, I'm having the delicious Saranack (sp?) diet root beer, which doesn't taste diet-y at all.
Trixie - be careful drinking and posting!
I also tried Tost last week. I like how they sell 1/2 sized bruscettas so that you can taste a bunch. The ones I had (gorgonzola/walnut, portobello/fontina and goat cheese/caramelzied onion) were all delicious. Half portions for $2 are not that big, but they piled generous portions on top. Full size for $3.50. -
speaking of beverages, has anyone else had the new tazo GIANT PEACH iced tea? it rocks. ROCKS. just thought i'd share
-
What/where is Miriam?
Jackie is awesome. She has cancer (so she's not feeling so hot these days) and is very "rough around the edges" but is a no-bullshit kind of woman. Look by her register and the picture of the cutest kitten is one of mine :-)
Deborah is the devil????? Your dog must be speaking to her in tongues,    because she's such a sweet doggie. We go to the park together all the time. She doesn't like to walk on a leash too much, but she's a happy, sweet dog (she's afraid of cats after one got her good in the face). Kids always pet (read: smack her in the head) her and she's very patient and gentle with them. -
btw, side note, TrixieNYC loves dill (not to be all Smartmom amd shit)
Miriam is a great little place, you almost want to walk past it but, heck, it's got a great non pretentious brunch with lots of options. I feel like a jerk I dont know any of the places y'all are mentioning. only been here a year and still havent made it to the park (I suck, I know)
Lobster Roll. sigh. all I have to say is I had a date with my bff tomorrow (what, am I 12?!) for beauty day (mind you, #1 salon in PS, Element, 5th avenue, off of St Marks) and lunch, both of us agreed to Fish Camp's Lobster Roll but...BUT, they are CLOSED on Sunday which I completely forgot.
sweetheart it is PERFECT, perfect. fresh chunk lobster, mounds of it, perfectly seasoned, not too much mayo, loaded into something like a hot dog bun (with is buttered up and lightly toasted) and accompanied by a side of matchstick fries. Market price will usually run you about 25 bucks. that and a nice lemonade and I'm set. -
I never heard of Element. I love girlie spa days. In the fall/winter, I'm going to have a girlie party at my house. Hair, makeup, toys ( ), food and wine.
I think Trixie just called BP "sweetheart". Aw
It's so nice to see some love on the board (especially from all you white, racist, spoiled brats
) -

ooooooooh not as much as the Pom Tea white peach does, nuh uh it dont.
and yes, yes, I'm hammered (slightly) had friends over tonight for pizza on the grill and salad. so yea, the best place to eat in PS would be my house
best pizza of the evening: Fig/goat cheese/proscuitto with a drizzle of honey. ya-UM.
best runner up: fresh ricotta/fresh Mozzerella ( a la AS on 5th) with garlic/olive oil and sliced garden tomatoes.
hungry yet? I do have leftovers. -

on 5th, a block before Elements (LOL, sorry) I'm still off on the streets over here. it's a great place, clean...SANITARY should I say. definitely not a cheapy $18 mani/pedi, more like $35 I think.
let's put it this way, my partner and I will go for mani/pedis/eyebrow and lip and its $110 for both of us. great place. blink and you'll miss it.
wait, I just described Element, shit, you asked about Miriam. hmm, it's on a corner, block before St Marks, on 5th, block after Gorilla Coffee.
nice menu, not pricey, good food, decent vibe, nice waitstaff. only did brunch, need to check out dinner. -

Fish Camp is alright. I never had their lobster rolls. Word is it's not that great. Then again I don't think you can pick up a good lobster roll anywhere in NYC except perhaps for City Island. Fish Camp has good lobster knuckles when in season. You pay a decent amount of money for standard itms such as shellfish and filets. As a side note if you're travelling near Kennebunk, Lobster Boy, which is next door to the Clam Shack should have lobster rolls. Actually, as soon as you hit Mass on the I-95N the local McD's makes them. You should buy the book "Road Food". It's like a bible for.....food places along the road. It hasn't failed me yet.

i have a pretty good idea of what i'm going to list, but i think i need to sleep on it before i type it out.

Nick's is where I go for Lobster in Brooklyn. It's a classic, and well worth the drive.

Flexichick wrote: I use Oak Park .... Plus, their store hours are too short. When I am working I can barely make it home in time before they close.
Neergaard on 5th Ave bwn 9th and 10th is open 24 hours a day. They also have medical supplies if you need an emergency wheel chair rental -

Light or albacore? I like albacore.
Just beware of the Mercury!!!! light supposedly has less but......
from http://www.doh.wa.gov/fish/FishAdvMercury.htm
Canned Albacore (White) Tuna
§ Women of childbearing age should limit the amount of canned albacore (white) tuna to one can per week. If you weigh 135 pounds you can eat up to one can (six ounces) per week, but no other fish should be eaten that week.
§ Children under six should eat less than one half a can (three ounces) of canned albacore (white) tuna per week. If your child has eaten canned albacore (white) tuna, your child should not eat any other fish that week. Specific weekly limits for children under six range from one ounce for a twenty pound child, to three ounces for a child weighing about sixty pounds.
To Further Reduce Your Exposure to Mercury:
§ Choose canned chunk light tuna over canned albacore (white) to further reduce your exposure to mercury. Chunk light tuna has three times less mercury than canned albacore tuna.
§ Eat fish that are low in mercury: light tuna, salmon, cod, flounder, pollock (imitation crab, surimi), catfish, and shrimp are smart choices.
