What will ultimately save and/or destroy CH?

Does she think her identity is secret?
Is it fair to let someone believe this, when it isn't true?
Does anyone really care? -

Hmmm, here are homeownership rates for the city as a whole, and broken down by ethnicity. ....big focus on Hispanic folks, but blacks are certainly written about.
Now lets find income stats which depict Crown Heghts middle class

aha!
here we go!

You see what I mean Krowonhill?

hmmmm page 181 of the CD8 Community Needs statement.
http://www.nyc.gov/html/dcp/pdf/pub/bkneeds_2011.pdf#bk08
reports that 15.8% of units in CD8 are occupied by their owner. ....but we are fixated on race ....those could be all the white ones. They aren't, but they could be.
must. find. data. that. shows. percent. of. black. people. in. CH. that. own. -
nope, but here is someplace that could help buy their first home....
http://www.nyc.gov/html/hpd/html/buyers/lotteries.shtml
.....oh well, out of time for now.
Suffice it to say that I believe that a substansial percentage of the owner occupied homes in CH are indeed occupied by black people. .....perhaps someone in real estate can chime in..... -
wait, demographics are constantly changing!
http://en.academic.ru/dic.nsf/enwiki/3139583
.....there are neighborhoods outside of CH!
OMG, why are we so attached to our little borders and who lives with in them when there is a whole city out there!
.....omg, there are places to live outside of the city!
maybe it doesn't matter who lives where.
maybe other groups are pushed out of other neighborhoods all the time and we need to look at the big picture whether discrimination is existing and our city has enough people to fill the various needs it has...... -
Subject: What will save Crown Heights hmmm
Since I grew up in Crown Heights when it was all white I would like to know why some of you act like it was always black. It was great growing up there. It was a lower to middle class area and very safe. -
@ whynot - I'm going to coordinate w/ ts to retrieve the wood. I will then measure the plots and give them to you. I'm on the iPhone and can not pm you.
I would also love to assist you - if needed - with building the guards. I have some tools myself. Circular saw, drill.
Let's do this & thank you for your generous offers!!! -

Why are you (and so many) on this board absolutely apoplectic over MHA's views which reflect those of disenfranchised poor blacks who make up a major part of our community?
Your posts don't read like they come from reasonable people...
"Y'all move in, and Black people take guns and kill other Black people; rape other Black people. It blows my mind. I am aghast at it. And the more you move in, the more it happens."
Which, when questioned ("MHA, what do you mean? How do white people moving in prompt more black on black crime? What about individual responsibility? Do you have any documented proof of what you claim), is answered not with any proof or sound reasoning, but outrage that he could even be questioned, and is only being silenced by indignant white folks who can't stand to hear the (his) "truth".
I've said it before a million times... it's the combo of his outright lies, anger, and lack of logic/proof/reasoning behind it that, quite frankly, pisses me off about MHA. Instead of coming across as the much needed alternative voice and advocate of the poor black people he and you claim he is, he just comes off as misguided, belligerent & illogical. And nearly every time he speaks on race relations in CH, he sets his agenda back another step and further puts his foot in his mouth. It's frustrating & at times down right depressing, and most importantly is diversionary and counterproductive in the context of the agenda of working towards folks not even getting along, but at least coexisting peacefully. The last thing CH needs is more racial tension (which is not to say discussions on the realities of race relations should be taboo). I wouldn't feel comfortable knowing my neighbor blames all the problems of his neighborhood on me solely for the color of my skin, regardless of the true causes of the goings on in the neighborhood and my actual part in them. Nor would I think it is fair, as it isn't. And of course, if such egregious baseless accusations were lobbied towards black people, I honestly don't know what MHA would do.
Can you make out MHA's points and validations behind them in here? He always claims I am misunderstanding them; if you are getting something out of them that I'm not I'd def. like to hear an alternate take. -
Organizations such as these ensure that the rights of residents (in this case the Lower East Side of Manhattan) are protected, and provide help to persons at risk of eviction.

There are similar services in CH....
http://www.ccmnyc.org/programs/HealthAndHousing.html
http://www.camba.org/Programs/HousingServicesDevelopment/tabid/63/menuheader/4/submenuheader/10101010/Default.aspx
....but I have not worked as closely with them.
Every neighborhood seems to have a struggling nonprofit working to help struggling families.....
and underfunded community development corporations exist to encourage new businesses, and improve the quality of life...
Perhaps they could save CH?
......by getting people together? -
Oy!

I know what will save Crown Heights: Whynot_31, SHUT IT.
Someone wrap a rubber band around those typing fingers. -
Maybe xoxox

@ Cool The Kid - usually I do not like the comments that you post in regards to CH.., but in this case all I must say is.., "CAN I GET AN AMEN!!!!'
PS - Didn't you move to the UES? Did you move back to CH? -
Not gonna repeat where I've moved to for security reasons (even though it's posted elsewhere)
But yea I am no longer in CH. However I will never forget it, and often find myself back there. -

CTK, I'm not talking about you in my post. In my opinion, you have consistently met MHA's posts (and mine) with thoughtfulness and respect, even when you profoundly disagree. I think that you (and people like you) - intelligent, considerate, and intellectually curious - have made sticking around this board worth it. I have enjoyed seeing your posts and I have learned from them. -
I do agree that CTK knows what he is talking about, but I'm unsure he can save/destroy CH.

Ha, if black men could blush...
Thanks, that really means a lot. Of course if I'm ever unreasonable or seemingly not making sense- call me on it. I don't think it's productive to have a forum if people can't disagree or stand behind the things we post, no matter how close to our hearts those things may be. In any case I too enjoy posting with everyone here, for the most part. -

ah, the bible!
....as noted on page 1, I had forgotten the name of the people who study income and homeownership rates for New York City. Every year they put out a huge, authoritative document that many in the NYC real estate and urban planning field refer to as "the bible".
Charts, neighborhoods, graphs, demographics, yada, yada, yada.
And then, as I wandered around my apartment muttering, came a familiar voice from the kitchen: "You mean the Furman Center?"
www.furmancenter.org/files/sotc/SOC2009_State_of_New_Yorkers.pdf
Yes!
The good people at the Furman Center will help save or destroy Crown Heights! They will provide us with reliable facts.
http://furmancenter.org/research/sonychan/
http://furmancenter.org/files/sotc/SOC2009_Brooklyn.pdf
go ye to CD 208
We can then save or destroy ourselves by creating public policies based on actual information, and not things we make up.
Bringing lots of $ to the area also helps!

.....I'm sure aliens will help us in the process as well.
