What are your favorite PS/WT stores and why?

I havn't seen mentioned so far:

Key Foods on 5th Ave and about Sterling

Anthony's Pizza on 7th and 14th: brick oven neapolitan pizza doesn't get better, and the cannoli is to die for

I like Anthony's (have only been once).

Key Foods on 5th is one of the better ones around, but since I have car, I'm all about the Fairway now (used to go to Gowanus Pathmark).

Best Loaf - Lopez Bakery - 5th ave bet 18 th and 19th St. The bread is very good and cheap. I always get the 7 grain. They make a nice loaf, but stay away from the pastry. The bread is baked fresh every day, but the other stuff tends to be stale. Haven't tried the tamales yet.

Bakery - Two Little Red Hens - 8th Ave. They're expensive, but so good.

Bodega/small grocer - La Dolce Vita - 7th Ave - Clean store and nice owner, also has a good beer selection

Toy Store - Toy Space on 7th ave around 13th - Nice selection of toys, if a bit overpriced. This place has saved me on a few occasions when I had to get a quick gift for a kid. There's also a place on 5th ave, but I can't remember the name.

Children's Shoes - Windsor Shoes - Prospect Park West - The staff is very helpful and they have a good selection.

Pizza - Pino's La Forchetta - 7th Ave - classic pizza joint

Coffee Shop - 6th ave and 12th St - Red Horse Cafe - good coffee and not crowded

Sandwich shop - Pollios - 5th Ave - Good hoagies and specialty foods. It has a nice, neighborhood feel.

The ceilings are high and the seating is comfortable. I didn't see many kids, maybe one or two and they were not running around. It's not a 'bring the kids to storytime' kind of place. There's wifi. I think there's sandwiches, but I'm not sure about that.

Ok, I can see that. There's nothing but love between me and Debs.

So, I just took a HUGE walk in the direction that I don't normally go.

I went to Lenny's Pizza and had a sicilian slice that was very good. The regular looked good, but I was v. hungry and the sicilian looked more filling. A friendly, old-skool pizzeria. Good call, Idlewild!

I also passed a place I forgot to mention before Kitchen Bar on 6th (around 18/19th). Out of the way, but good food, reasonable prices and they deliver. Friendly owner and tasty stuff (salads, small plates (e.g. 3 mini hamburgers), regular-sized entrees).

I want to try the place next door (Bar-B-Q). Has anybody been there yet?

on my walk i found this (new?) place on PPW called "elora's". spanish and mexican. menu looks good, and they have margarita happy hour.

i've done taqueria DF, and their menu freaks me out. there's a lot of weird meat on there. i don't remember what kind, exactly, but it was something like lung or tripe or brain tacos. creepy.

You haven't lived until you've had Mexican tongue in your mouth. Tacos Nuevos makes it with a great green and/or red sauce. I'll leave the guinea pig to the more adventureous types. Gp is just another name for a rat.

Subject: My reliables

Park Slope Barber Shop - best music in town, plus a good cut.
Wide booze selection at Xmas.
Conn Muff - Wish the Starbucks would close, and the Muff moves in!
Neergaard. 5th Ave for emergencies, the newly renovated 7th Ave. anytime else.
La Bagel Delight - at both 7th Avenue locations.
Pino's. Old-school pie.
Zuzu's Petals - great flowers and a large dog, too.
Prospect Park. Thank the Lord and Olmstead for this green gem.
Tarzian Hardware. Yep, it's Lowe's for the big stuff, but when something small goes ...
5th Avenue Key Food. Puts all NYC supermarkets to shame.

i can't find the menu i had--likely through it away because of all the lung specials... :roll: but i do remember it being very peculiar

as for tongue, my mom always had it at the deli. still vile, and feels like, well, a tongue.

Being the nice person that I am, I'll leave those sweatbreads for you :P

Now, if you can find me some cheese curds, I expect a PM!
