Pizza — Brooklynian

Pizza

I almost always get pizza from Antonios on Flatbush, or sometimes Ginos, when I don't want to order a whole pie (the baby boom is quite good).

I know there are a couple on Washington - what's the consensus on these? I was hoping the tattoo place on Underhill would end up a nice pizzeria. Oh well.

  • Gino's is the only one on Washington, between Eastern and Atlantic, that I'm aware of. We usually order from Antonio's - I like the sausage & pepperoni, my wife likes their veggie, no cheese.

Other than that, you gotta travel, I think... unless you want a gourmet pizza (read: good, but small and expensive) like Franny's or Amorina. If I'm going further afield, I like DiFara's and Grimaldi's.
  • we usually order from gino's on flatbush. haven't had any from one on washington.

has anyone had michael's on bergen near flatbush?

We used to order Michael's until we discovered Antonio's. Michael's is good. Antonio's is better.
  • it's unfortunate that we don't have better pizza options in the heights but oscar's, which is on 7th a block or so into the slope, delivers here and is imo way better than antonio's or gino's (both of which i believe use recycled cardboard for crust).

    oscar's
    54 7th ave
    399-2930

also two boots will deliver here, which is probably the best of the bunch, but they're so far away it sometimes takes a while and the pizza's not always hot when it arrives.

sadly, two boots uses underhill as their delivery cut-off.

gino's is awful and antonio's isn't much better. have never tried oscar's - is the crust a bit thinner and less grody?

Oscar's went out of business awhie ago. It's a burger joint now.
  • it's really sad that we live in brooklyn and can't get a decent pie delivered to our door.

good to know about underhill being the cutoff for two boots. i'd be willing to stand just on the other side of underhill for their pizza.
  • good luck! I tried to convince two boots to deliver just to Underhill, but they wouldn't deliver to the street without a home address, and they wouldn't come to my apartment, which is on the corner of Lincoln and Underhill.
  • LaVilla has kick ass pizza made in wood burning ovens and they deliver to P. Heights. I think it is better than Franny's.

crapola. i'm on underhill/saint marks. i guess they won't accept the address for ps 9 across underhill for delivery ;)
  • i love amorina. one pizza is enough for two, AND there's the tiramisu.....which i shouldn't be telling you about, since i get REALLY upset when they run out.

Not if one of those two is me!!!
  • Oh, and I just had an EXCELLENT pizza tonight from... well, I made it meself. :D I've been on a home made pizza kick since I rediscovered the breadmaker - great for making dough!

will you deliver? ;) an all-in-one natural heights/whyfi pizzeria!
  • sorry for the dated info on oscar's. too bad. besides being the best pizza you could get delivered south of underhill, they had authentic mexican decor.

    what's lavilla?
  • An italian restaurant on 5th Avenue next to the new Commerce Bank.

I can barely make enough pizza for myself! ;)
  • Does nobody like Antonio's? Or do they not deliver that far inot PH?
  • Antonio's is my go to place, but it's really just decent - wish we had better options.
  • Idlewild wrote: Does nobody like Antonio's? Or do they not deliver that far into PH?
A few people have said that they like Antonio's, myself included. They're good. Not great, but good.

I agree. I wish they had a better crust and less gloopy topping. but they're way better than Gino's
  • Yeah, I settle for Antonio's, but I do wish there were better options in delivery range.
  • I'm probably in the minority here, but I really want, JUST ONCE, to order a pie from Papa John's. It was a bachelorhood staple of mine in MN, and I wonder what I would think of it now... I kinda expect the nostalgia to be the highlight of the meal... but who knows?

I've done it fairly recently - although on a trip back to the midwest.

    It was........

    .......glorious.

I don't know if the Brooklyn Papa John's is different from the MN one, but I have to disagree in a major way. People from work were ordering pizza and I was really hungry (I'd been working for almost 12 hours without a break to sit down), so I ordered half a pie. I didn't realize it was going to be from Papa John's, or I wouldn't have done it. All I can say is, it's not really pizza, and it's kind of gross. Of course that didn't stop me from finishing my 4 slices in 8 minutes flat, but like I said, I was totally starving.
I think that people who like Papa John's succumb to a common fallacy outside NY- that pizza is just a vehicle for toppings. Honestly, if a slice isn't worth eating plain, it's not really worth eating (unless you're really hungry and that's all there is).

I'm not saying it's "real" pizza by any means. I'm saying, for whatever it "is", I like it sometimes.

LOL - Okay, I'll do it... but I'm gonna need extra garlic butter!

Obviously, a lot of people agree with you, since those places do really well.
