strangeness

when one creates a new topic in the overview section it doesn't belong to a particular neighborhood, or existing topic ....like politics.

This topic was created in this manner.

We should likely prevent people from creating a new topic from the homepage.

This way, the program would know which section to put the topic in.

Otherwise, these topics will have to be sorted manually ....or something

  • Actually, you have the choice of what forum to post to. You probably overlooked the dropdown, so it ended up in the default forum, called "Site Issues".

Maybe there's a better way to handle posting from the homepage, such as creating a landing page that says "what forum do you want to post to?" with a series of clickable links.

Alternatively, we could "require" that the user make a choice of forum, but I don't know how to make that change.

  • correct, I did not notice the drop down. Can we make it bigger or something?

My thought about allowing people to create a new topic from the home page is that it will cause people to not look at the things already being discussed.

By requiring them to actually go to the forum they want to post in, the user may see that we are already discussing the crime that took place or bagel shop in question.
