  • Whynot, your suggestion and others are being discussed. Give us some time.

    8O  :sunny:

  • I see where it lives. I will conspire (with admin) to surprise and overwhelm it into doing our bidding.

  • sweet. I am in no rush. I will post random ideas on site improvement as they come mind, feel free to ignore or implement them.

  • No worries!

  • I'm still not seeing the 'preview post' button. Am I just being an idiot?

  • I took off the "preview" because it was causing a lot of server load with all the ajax. looking for a more traditional way of doing preview.

  • taking off topic views too when I get time

  • Looks like the entire site (posts, titles etc.) just went to italicized text.

Open <em> tag somewhere, missing its </em> bookend?

***edited to add: Ah, phew, much better.

  • I was wondering how many seconds it would take for someone to comment on my lack of a closing italics tag...

  • I actually thought it was just some oversight or another in one of my LOOOOOOONNNNNG posts, ha.

  • Thanks for removing the # of views. Already goes a long way to improving usability. My other main request would be allowing the table to resize for higher resolutions (I'm at 1920x1200)...

  • Hi all.

I'll investigate the fluid layout request and add it to a few other items I'm working on and testing in a separate installation. It may be something we give users an option to select (either static or fluid layout) up-top an initial time and anytime from their profile beyond that. Have to investigate, we'll see.

Other things to be rolled out on that list for subsequent ( 2.x / point release) include an optional mobile version (with link to override if the full site is preferred on iPhone or something) and at least one other option users can select for a different overall site design/layout theme and a few other things.

Note: It will take a number of weeks to get through the list of items that need to be pushed to this subsequent release but we hope to be able to release it by the end of the year.

Can't make any promises for sooner given the significant and necessary planning, development, testing and final integration time to address this list of more complex, potentially conflicting items especially since all this is done outside of everyone's regular day jobs.

In the meantime we're focusing mainly on supporting immediate major/critical bugs and issues that have been reported since the new site launched.

Thanks again to everyone for their patience and for all the great ideas.

  • Odd delay:

On this thread, I am the latest poster. But the front page does not report this:

NYC to Lose Sanctuary City status in 2013? whynot_31 3 Jimmy 36 minutes »

  • So uh...is there a way to jump directly to the first post in a thread that you haven't seen yet, a la the orange icon from the old boards that used to be to the left of the thread?

So if you want to see the whole thread from the first page: click on the thread title.

If you want to see the last reply in a thread click on the blue link that states the time of the last reply.

  • At the moment the way to jump the most recent post in the thread (instead of the beginning of the thread) is as follows:

See the "Latest Activity" ("Freshness" on some pages) column on the far right?

The "5 minutes" or whatever is a link that will take you to the latest post in the thread.

***edited to add: what Mamacita said. :D

Yep, we are looking in to other ways (perhaps inclusion of minimal, clean, small icons that won't clutter things) to signal this, for later possible release on the site.

  • dey took away my post count!!

didn't notice till i read this thread.

  • Yeah, but...I can't find that post for some reason. Clicking the link in your post won't help because that's a quoted snapshot at a particular moment in time, not as something may currently exist or not on the site.

For example, if it's been removed (for the moment) that would explain why there might be some odd behavior when trying to call it back up (including possibly re-using the post ID# in a newer post, which might explain the direction to that other post).

So, are you still able to see it, or did you perhaps click on an outdated/not-fresh list of posts (that would not reflect post deletions), if you had the page previously open?

  • On the first page, second section:

Site issues is the first topic. Click on latest activity, and it will take you to a seemingly random post. ....it won't take you to Site Issues.

I had to log out to see this.

    links to:

It would appear that this happens for both logged-in members (whynot's report here) as well as persons not logged in.

    Thanks, good catch.

Hmm. So in other words, no. I've got to go either all the way to the end and scroll back or start at the beginning and scroll forward.

    Still working on it.

  • Wow, that came off as pissy. Didn't mean it to. Definitely appreciate all the efforts of the web code people.

  • Hey you guys, sorry to hijack the post but the board will not let me post new threads because the ads on the right hand side won't allow me to click on the button to post a new topic. What's up with that??

  • Hey there canyon, I went ahead and moved your feedback to the site issues here, thanks for posting it wherever you were able.

I'll look right into it and post a fix soon. Thanks!

  • It should be resolved now across the forums boards; let me know if you see any issues. Thanks.

Unfortunately I don't think this one is going to happen. One major reason why most of the WWW now uses fixed width layouts is that there is a virtually infinite number of browser/device combinations. Even when I think the layout is locked down and bulletproof, I will hear from someone who can't view a post, or write a new post, because the layout is wonky for them.

  • If it hasn't been mentioned, I'm worried that the lack of FF spell check compatibility will shine a light on how piss poor my spelling skilz be.

  • WhyFi,

    Yep, that's on the list.
