Where to get a puggle in NYC? — Brooklynian

Where to get a puggle in NYC?

I want to get a puggle, preferably under a year old. Does anyone know a breeder or a place where I can get one?

If you have advice on choosing a breeder that would be appreciated as well.

Thanks!

  • Look for your mutt on petfinder.com. there are too many animals and not enough good homes. Why have one bred for you when there are so many needing homes. Petfinder has dogs by breed and age and location.
  • Thanks but that doesn't answer my question.
  • What do you have against shelter animals? You can save a life.
  • Thanks again, but hoping some else can actually answer my question.
  • I tried sending you a pm but I don’t think it went through.
You’re better off Googling it. I did it for you, here it is http://www.newyorkpugglebreeders.com/ny-puppies-for-sale/.

I have two pets that needed homes, but I don't think it's right to try to brow beat people into doing something they don't want to do. If you want a puggle, why shouldn't be able to have one? You’re not doing this to get into puggle fighting or just raising them to eat them for meat are you? It’s still an animal getting a good loving home, so how bad can that be?
  • I'm sure I've seen puggles listed on adoption sites in the past. Can't hurt
just to give a look. Try Posh Pets or Sean Casey
  • If you're looking for under a year, definitely check petfinder. Puggle isn't a breed option there but if you just use "pug", I'm seeing several puggles in the first pages of that search in the NYC area.

    Worth checking out.

yup. puppies, pure breeds, designer combos -- no doubt puppy puggles too
  • Yes if you read my post it says you dont have to have one bred for you, you can find them on petfinder and all the shelters. The shelters also list on pet finder , and a Lot of people dump pure bred dogs and puggles too at animal control. Dont be so defensive.
  • Piano, a puggle is a mutt. its not a purebreed. aND if people want them, let them have them. But with 4 million animals put to sleep each year because of overbreeding and lack of good homes, its just as easy to get a puggle from a shelter or petfinder than adding to the problem by using a "breeder".

Just a few of many who are up for adoption. If you're determined to get a puppy, but are not an experienced dog owner, just know that Puggles are outside dogs, with strong beagle traits (I have a rescue beagle). They need a lot of socialization, exercise and shouldn't be off leash, ever! They follow their nose and their hunting instinct always wins. You will need to be prepared for destroyed property, pee and poop in your house and waking up in the middle of the night to a puppy who needs to play or go to the bathroom. It's a huge committment, so you will need a lot of time at home - hopefully you work from home - or hire a good dog walker or doggie daycare. A lot of patience and $$ for obedience classes and vet bills.

    Good luck!
  • my wife after surviving chemo therapy and getting back into remission decided she wanted a purebred daschund. We looked high and low for one in the area. Breeders around here wanted big money for one ($900-1200), so we went online. She found Kingdom Come Kennels online owned by Deb Bartowski. there the dogs were cute, she allowed us to see pics of the parents and spoke with us. You want to get a dog that is from parents of good temprament and you want a mother that is not bred more than a couple of times a year. Debs kennel did all that. She does operate out of MO but she was able to hook us up with one of her contractors who transports pets here to NY for pet stores. The dog left sunday night from there we had her tuesday. The greatest thing is our dog was healthy except for a little kennel cough which is normal.the dog is guaranteed for health which is im[ortant . She was de wormed and had all but one of her shots as she hadnt gotten old enough for it. We paid i believe $350 for the dog and $300 for shipping for a total of $650...
If you need the direct email for her please PM me and we will look for it
  • I'd be suspicious of a "small, family breeder" who ships a dog with kennel cough to you...

Agreed. Kennel cough is not common in a healthy, well-cared for litter. It wasn't even that common in the poorly-funded city shelter where I worked for a couple of years and the facilities were far from ideal.

Anyway, even if you think you want to go with a breeder, it can't hurt to look into adopting an unwanted pooch from a shelter or rescue group. They often have great insight into the personality of the dog and it's needs and are willing to share all of this to make sure the dog finds the right home, not just any home.

    Good luck!
  • I read somewhere once: If you are asking more questions than the breeder, walk away, they're a bad breeder.

That said, pound puppies are where it's at.

    +1

  • Sorry to tell you this, but no reputable breeder will breed pug/beagle mixes. If you DO find a breeder online or otherwise, you can bet your bottom dollars that they are a puppy mill or backyard breeder. If you buy one from a pet store, you are supporting puppy mills. Period.

I'm not trying to chastise anyone, many people do not know this until they really start researching "designer" dogs.

If you really love the idea of a puggle, please look on petfinder.
