I got your country right here
Pretty sure I haven't asked this before. I am a singer/songwriter of the country type. In fact I'm writing this from Nashville right now, but I'm headed back home tonight. I've really got to start playing out and meeting others who do my style of music until I relocate down to Tennessee. I know there is not a whole lot of country music in NYC, but I do know there's got to be some. There's a lot of people who come from Nashville up here and vice versa. So I was wondering if y'all (see what I did there?) can tell me where the country hangouts anywhere in the city are, where they have live (hopefully original) country music, either band or acoustic. I'm not talking a few licks of country in a rock song, but real country (or country-pop, or whatever is country top 40-like). Would like to find others who know the Nashville scene, know how it works, do co-writes, etc. Thanks!

canyon,
You got MP3 links? MySpaces? -
Me personally? Yeah, I can message them to you in a bit but I've got to revamp my myspace first! -
Hank's on Atlantic ave and 3rd ave in Brooklyn hosts alot of country/western (even a live band country karaoke ). And of course there's Rodeo Bar on Manhattan. Once you check one or both of those places out, you'll probably get alot more input as to where else- -
I second luckmagnet's suggestions. Hanks does tend to lean a little more towards rockabilly some nights (but I like that), but it's a real true dive in everyway, no gimmicks, all dirty and dark :-)
Rodeo Bar, has a ton of memorabillia and is a 2 level restaurant and bar, w/live music. What you'd expect from manhattan, but I really like it. Great happy hour btw. Do a google search and you'll find positive reviews.
Ah man, I love Nashville. I tried to convince my better half to move with me there. I need to go back for a long vacation soon <3
PM you music links too, Canyon! -
Thanks for the suggestions. I definitely know of Rodeo Bar. Haven't been there, but am planning to. Will check out Hank's as well. Anyone know of Banjo Jim's? That's the other one I have on my list.
Argh as far as myspaces and mp3 links go, all I'm going to have until January are really crappy, especially vocally, worktapes of some songs. Nothing is really going to come together until I get back from Nashville after recording demos. lol
Howdy, Stranger!
