El Castillo de Jagua gets a C from health department

I walked by and the big yellow "C" grade is hanging in the the window of El Castillo (affectionately know as El Carneviento) on Flatbush Avenue. Usually, when I walk by it is crowded with folks getting breakfast sandwiches but not today.

  • Duh, of course. C = Carneviento.

  • seriously. We don't eat there because we think it is health food.

  • But a C is a passing grade.

    As in...

Pass me some more o' that chuleta de puerco.

  • C as in delicious CUBAN sandwich!

Letter grades don't mean anything, most A grades are paid off. Diane Sawyer just had an expose on it (though I already knew it from living in other states and seeing it happen)

  • So does this mean another happy hour at Sharlene's to support Carneviento (and eat some pernil?)

  • It could.

But we could also just eat at Carniviento

....I think they have beer for those who want it.

  • Now I'm craving mofongo.

  • F the DOH. I'm going to keep getting mamey shakes, fried shrimp and pork chop sandwiches, pastelitos, and cheap, mediocre espresso.

  • You're being kind when you call their espresso "mediocre."

Well we are getting close to Festivus time !Beer

  • was it a "C" or a "Si"?

Festivus at Grand Castillo?? This would be a nice change, plus just imagine the chaos and fun we'd have!

  • Decor is spartan enough.

    Imagine that:

    POLLO Y POLO.Laughing

  • Peeps, lets make this happen! Dinner at Carneviento and late night drinks at Sharlene's (pets allowed at the ladder) for Festivus?

I'm guessing, I put in so much sugar that's it more like that slush the day after it snows. But it is better than their coffee ;)

  • Mougar, how often do you eat NYC slush that you know it is similar to their coffee?

....and people say I need a hobby. Mougar is eating slush!

Nah, it only looks the like the slush. I can confidently say it tastes 53% better (+/- 15% depending on trash concentration).

  • White Castle has an "A" proudly displayed.
