Cheapest wine I've found in Brooklyn is the place next to Costco (you don't have to be a member). Not a great selection but stuff is as much as $2 less than any of the 7th Avenue places.

I agree but when I ireally want to stock up I head over the Wholesale Wines and Liquors on Braodway and Astor, great select and prices and knowledgable staff. I can say get me a selection $6-$7 chardonnay and sauvignon blanc and get a case of great wines.
  • trixieNYC wrote: yea, and what Quiji said (can I call you Quiji?) about Bierkraft. again, while I'm not the beer drinker (I can't even stand the smell of it and that's all the wife drinks, lol) I think it's such a great shop. And I think it's wondeful they offer that Tuesday night tasting deal (free) very wise of them, great way to connect w/ customer. I'd love to check it out one night, yet, I'd hate to take a seat away from a deserving kegger. (what do you call beer drinkers, I know I'm a "wino")
just don't call me late for dinner...
    drumrollllllllllllll

ah, yes, guest, agreed, Wholesale Wines and Liquors on Braodway and Astor. wonderful selection, great pricing - only thing is I stopped shopping them in December after buying a bum bottle of Insignia ($120) man I was pissed. however, it made for a great mushroom wine sauce for steak

    oh.
    no.
    you.
    didn't.

LOL, I thought the only one who uses that phrase is my partner's mother...who, after almost 10 years still refuses to call me by my proper name

    love it!

Is it called Pearl River? It's a step up from a plexiglass place, but the selection is pretty good. I have found some decent, inexpensive wines there. Not bad, if you don't mind the chatty borachos who frequent the place.

Now that you said river, it reminded me that it's called Bay River (I think). Yes, big selection and for the stuff that I knowthe prices of. I know that it's cheaper there.

Loads of drunks, but I'm usually there in the daytime, so it's not too scary

Is this the same place as Astor Wines? That places has some tasty stuff that's not too expensive. I know they were scheduled to move across the street a few months ago

All this booze talk caused me to drink a Brooklyn Blanche de Brooklyn with dinner... which was poured from a Bierkraft growler!
  • All this alcohol talk has me wondering if it's wrong to drink the 1/2 a beer that my guest didn't finish (since he just left)

honey, go make you a grilled cheese sandwich and pop open a bottle of wine, its actually almost red wine season...yay!

Non related to booze but relative to the original thread, AH, favorite places (yet now gone) Y Canteen on 6th and I think Lincoln (not sure, cause, well, its gone now)
When we moved in last summer I think it was one of the first take out menus thrown onto our doorstep/stuck in the gate. I love sushi but my partner will only eat cooked food. this was one place that not only offered cooked food options but they had such a great variety of skewered yakitoris (like 20 types I think) for 2 bucks a pop. really fun stuff.
great rolls too. they never had a problem making up some funky requests I had as well. then, one day to my dissmay, they closed. I found on their website they were in partnership with Nana on 5th but their food (for whatever reason) was nowhere comparable.... and then, I found my true love....Kiku. somebody pinch me. tuna dumplings. I swear there's crack in there, they're addictive. and the spicy miso toro (salad) is really nice. small portion but toro is relatively expensive anyway.

cheese? in the house? i don't think so. i'd eat all of it in 5 minutes. (this is why there is no food in the house that's "instant" other than oatmeal or grits or boiled eggs. i can't be trusted with food...)

i have some wine chilling (and i always do white; yummy sauvignon blanc at 12th street, with the mussels. ):cry::cry:

being poor and being on a diet BITES
  • oh ma' word I have got SO much cheese on hand right now its ridiculous. mind you my refridgerator looks like a damn deli. (I'm a little like that freaky husband in "Sleeping with the enemy" Julia Roberts, circa 1990-something...all the cans gotta face the same way, bla bla bla)
Always ready for company...always ready for a BBQ...we have like 4 types of beers, 5 types of soda, bla bla bla, and, as I think I mentioned to you the other day POM TEA peach passion white tea .

    so damn GOOD![/b]
    you must try that tea

you want to make me cry, right? gah
  • BP, if Trixie doesn't just flat-out invite us all over soon, I think we need to track her by IP address and just show up at her door.

You can have that peach tea stuff, I'm going for the cheese and the beer
  • <<<<<<< because it's not like I'm supossed to be working right now or anything....lol

    psychotic. but it's ok, right?

Definitely okay - I took a photo of my fridge's contents about a week ago. :)

    :lol::lol::lol:
  • ok, who wants a shot of the wine fridge next...lol.
  • megan, I see WAY too many fat free items in there...and um, beers...is that like an oxymoron or something?!
  • the lightbulb fixture inside my fridge died, so it's dark. but if the light were there you'd see very little: eggs, tons of jams and mustards, apples, whhole wheat bread, iced coffee, milk, onions
  • I've never taken a picture of the contents of my fridge in my life! You guys are freaks (but I'll still come over if invited, because there's some good stuff in them there fridgies)

I prefer saving my calories for beer. 8)

(I lost almost 60 pounds on Weight Watchers, and have been successful in keeping it off so far. I sure do love me full-fat everything, which is why I typically remove all temptation while at home. Except for my beloved beer. Mmmmmm... beeeeeeeer..)

i lost some last summer doing a program with prevention mag (yes, i was in the mag. it was horrid). then i gained much of it back. then, in january, i got really sick and ended up in the hospital for 6 days and lost 11 pounds. gained much of it back. ergo, 4-5 pounds brings me back down to goal.

and it BITES that unless you go to a big market the blueberries cost $4.
  • ok, bringin' it back home again....we're all waaaaaay too A.D.D. for our own good.
topic:What are your favorite PS/WT stores and why?

Ode to Bierkraft, simnce we're talking cheese here (and Trixie doesn't like beer, sorry Megan!)
    1. Chevre du Miel (which they turned me onto Saturday when I asked for a nice goat cheese to go with my grilled pizza of fig/proscuitto/goat/honey)
usually I stick to what I know. Coach Farms, but the cutie (No NOT the owner) suggested this one. It's a goat cheese, nice and smooth with a touch of honey, went perfect with the pizza.

    2. Sottocenere al Tartufo. a wonderful soft, mild cheese laced with truffles. not too heavy and has a (not so delicate) tasty rind. really great cheese, same cutie (No NOT the owner) recommended it to me last year prior to my birthday bash.

    good cheeeeeeese. Bierkraft. the end.

As soon as I saw the light multigrain muffins (1 point) I thought- this person could be a WW member. Congratulations on your 60. I am 2 pounds away from my 50 pound magnet and I feel (and look) so, so fabulous. :D Enjoy your beer, I save my calories for extra dark chocolate, it's the only full fat item I keep in the house.

I actually have been buying my occasional 5-years-aged Gouda indulgence at Blue Apron. They also sell baked goods from Baked, the bakery in Red Hook. I like that this could save me a trip down to Red Hook (on foot, as I don't own a car and the spouse is too impatient to ride a bus), but alas - they don't sell Baked's cake slices at Blue Apron. Fooey. (The cupcake's just not enough for me!)
