  • I've been customizing the editor config this morning and have thus far succeeded in the following:

    1) paste-ins are now plain text, including urls previously hidden

    2) ridiculous extra line breaks and line spacing eliminated

    3) as a result of the above, quotes should be working a little better...except that copying and pasting a quote to another thread is a bit iffy, due to plain-text paste-ins. Oy.

Working on a ton of other overhauls to make it finally behave.

  • So I can still just use html tags to format stuff, right?

    test
  • So, I've finally put my finger on what is slightly rubbing me the wrong way with the layout -

The /forum page - I like the blue/orange bar along the top, I think that it's great and streamlines site usage. What I don't like is the fact that you always have to scroll down to get to the 'classic' brooklynian breakdown - the neighborhood boards. I don't know about other users, but that was always my landing page.

What I would like to see is... incorporate the 'classic' view (ie, neighborhood/subject matter/etc) with the top blue/orange panel and make that the default tab instead of "Active Now!" To conserve space, I would consolidate "my topics" and "watchlist" - just give the user the option to add a thread to "my topics," without posting to the thread.

  • ^^^ Also, if the classic layout is incorporated in to the top panel, you could get rid of the lower panel altogether - top and bottom panel seem redundant on any tab other than "active now," anyway.

  • there is a link at the top of the page that says "hide latest activity". If you click on that, the latest activity will be hidden. Does that accomplish what you are looking for?

  • Well, it moves the classic boards to the forefront, but it also removes the (literally) one-click access to the new board features that I like. I want to have my cake and eat it, too. ;)

  • ah, don't we all. :)

OK, I'll work on that. Thanks.

  • while your at it, please make the Quote feature as smart as the prior one was.

The quote feature on the prior version inserted the name of the poster you were quoting; this version doesn't

    then

    now

  • One thing that's not very visible when looking at a thread is when a post/reply was created. Example, it looks like whynot posted the reply above mine 4 hours ago, but it's very light grey and there's a number sign before the time that makes me doubt whether that's the posting time or the last time he was on the site.

How about changing it to: "Posted <time> ago."

Personally, I'd love it if the timestamp was in the upper right-hand corner of the post but I'm not picky. :)

edited to add: ok, after posting my reply, clearly it's the timestamp. I'd make it more obvious, if possible.

  • OK, I added the word "posted" and made the link darker. I'll explore other ways of making it more obvious, but that should help for now.

  • Yes, makes a difference. Thx.

  • On a mobile device, can one access the Private Message feature?

    How?

  • yes - I'll add a link as soon as I can.

  • Private messaging is acting weird.

When I get a new msg, it sends the msg to the email I registered on the site with.

However, the msg can't be accessed from the site it self.

  • Just sent you a test PM, let me know what happens (I was able to open my PMs this AM)

  • Daily Heights and I are figuring it out.

....it has to do with who receives the alert via email.

  • Odd - I posted in one of my threads in the Photo forum (panorama thread) and noticed that it didn't bump the thread - not within the forum, My Posts, Active Topics, nuthin'. The post is there, but it's not registering... weirder still, when not logged in, the post isn't visible at all...

  • Sorry Whyfi, for some reason your post fell into the Spam box, I fixed it. I'll let DH know so he can look into it.

  • Shit - I didn't even know that there was a spam box.

  • I just called it that, but it's probably better described as a "spam filter"
